If someone is brainwashed (i.e. being controlled), is it justifiable to kill that person in self-defense?

Asked by: bossyburrito
  • Yes, if their actions are what caused them to get brainwashed

If their actions (i.e. joining the military, working for a large corporation who brainwashed them, making a poor decision and being sold into sex slavery which they were then brainwashed, ect.) caused them to attempt bodily harm against an innocent victim, that person should defend themself, even if it means killing the brainwashed attacker. In cases where the brainwash was inflicted in a different way, then I think it's really 50/50. It might be better to kill the brainwashed person in self defense bc the brainwashed person could attack others they aren't safe. It would probably be the same rules as a mental case.

  • Brainwashed means doing uncontrollable things and rage is one of them; so is reacting to fear

Its close. In fact the person brainwashed is justified because the feelings of brainwashing can make you do things that are uncontrollable and cause you to feel things you have no control over. In fact brainwashing implies washing or altering someone's brainwaves and brain patterns making vibrations attatch or create themselves onto someones brain through a form of subliminal communication and hypnosis. The person is justified but is it ethically responsible to commit a legal act of killing in order to justify the feelings of brainwashing and abnormality? There are other ways such as street fighting or lashing out or snitching that might prove t o be a greater weight against a brainwasher

  • Rage should be controlled.

However the person doing the washing must consider it a risk, for the more someone does not believe in the practice and recognizes it happening may cause the brainwash to malfunction and create an uncontrollable rage.

  • Being brainwashed does not constitute killing.

What was that person doing to be killed? This question was not very complete. However, in any case, it is not right to kill anyone unless they are putting your life in danger, and this question did not specify that. What was that person whom was brainwashed doing in the first place?

  • Killing them should be the very last resort.

No, I do not think that a brainwashed person should be killed. Every other possible measure should be taken before that happens. However, if the brainwashed person is going to kill another person, and the only choice they have is to kill them in self-defense...This is unfortunate, but there simply is no other option.

  • No, a person should not be killed purely because they are brainwashed.

I am interpreting the meaning of the proposition to be debated as indicating that “brainwashing” is the only evidence required to kill in self defense. Obviously, if a person presents a physically immediate danger to the lives of others, the use of any amount of force on that individual is justified regardless of their characteristics. “Brainwashed” is a term that is much too nebulous to use as a justification for taking a life. Some may argue that “straight society” is in fact a massive brainwash and we would not want them to believe that most people's life is forfeit.
