Incest between step relatives: Should sex between step relatives be considered incest?

  • Yes, it is too close.

Yes, sex between step relatives should be considered incest, because it is too close to be a positive relationship. The families of the people involved should be considered too. When it is a step relationship, it complicates things for the rest of the people in the family. Their considerations are a good reason to make it incest.

  • Yes, step relatives having sex together are in an incestuous relationship.

Yes, by essence incest is sexual intercourse between people in a consanguineous relationship, meaning close relatives such as siblings from same biological parents, cousins and step relatives. In other parts of the world as in Africa, having sex with a member of your tribe or clan can be considered as incest. In those countries of Africa, the notion of family is very broad and the extended family includes people whose level of consanguinity is questionable.

  • If consenting between the two, okay.

If both Parties know exactly what their doing and the age is legal on both sides, then they should be "allowed" to do as they please. Society's Taboo's are yesterday's wrongs. The two lovers will enjoy themselves as they should, No one should control another's sex life. Just do it !

  • Sex will not bring on genetic catastrophe

Sex is a beautiful way to express Love and caring. Step relatives are exactly that - STEPS - Not fully genetically related. If a son love his step mom and they are legal age and want to express it so be it! Same is true for a step daughter who wants to express her love for a step father, then in privacy and legal consenting adults then such should not be banned!

  • No increased risk of genetic defects

Though personally I think the risk of genetic defects argument is a poor one in relation to banning incest. We don't ban two people with the same recessive genetic disorder from marrying or having kids, much less from having sex together.

But for steprelatives there's no risk at all. Whether to consider the possible implications for relationships within the family is their business.
