Indiana bill would allow police to shut down protests 'by any means necessary' . Will this encourage overuse of force?

  • As long as the demonstration does not present a immediate danger, a citizen should have the right of protest.

The constitution states citizens of US have a right to freedom of speech. As long as the demonstration does not present a immediate danger, a citizen should have the right of protest. U.S. has been built on the diversities of our country. This is what makes our country great!!! Do not suppress the people that makes this county great!

  • Yes, a bill allowing police to use any means necessary will likely encourage overuse of force

Yes, a bill allowing police to use any means necessary will likely encourage overuse of force. Any time an individual or group in power is given the ability to use "any means necessary," there is room or overuse and corruption. No one should be given the ability to determine for themselves what means is necessary.

  • Yes, law enforcement already has issues with overuse of force.

Law enforcement doesn't need any more encouragement to use force. There have already been numerous stories in the media regarding police overstepping their boundaries. We already have appropriate methods in place to keep protestors under control, we don't need to encourage more violence. These situations can get out of control very quickly. We need to focus more on reason and patience.

  • Police have enough power.

Law enforcement already has ways to shut down protests when they get out of hand. Unfortunately, police abuse their power all the time. The last thing we need to be doing is giving law enforcement even more power to hurt citizens without being held accountable. They will hurt innocent people this way.

  • An Indiana bill allowing police to shutdown protests by any means necessary will not encourage overuse of force

And Indiana bill allowing police to shutdown protest by any means necessary will not encourage the overuse of force because as it stands right now every police officer is under a microscope and will not endanger their own livelihoods to make an arrest or put down a protest. Reality is that some of these protests do need to be shut down and police are currently working with their hands tied unable to fight much of this nonsense
