Even though George W. Bush once had the nerve to proclaim that our mission in Iraq was accomplished, the truth is we can never truly bring democracy to nations whose leaders do not themselves embrace the ideology. No amount of military occupation will ever change that fact. Stability is an amorphous and unattainable goal.
There is a distinct difference between the Iraq war and the Vietnam war. There were not a myriad of protests for the Iraq war that made the Vietnam war sort of an American iconic event instead of a war that left thousands of beleaguered protesters claiming disloyalty to their country.
