  • There is still plenty of work, money, and opportunities in the USA.

Even though there is a worldwide economic recession, I would still consider America the land of opportunity. The American dream is not dead yet. America is struggling, but with the hard work and willpower of the people to fight for what is right, America can quickly become the best country in the world. It may not be the best in the world, but it could easily be. I think the USA has a lot more potential economically than many EU countries. There is plenty of work, and plenty of good people around to help others out.

  • America is great

Yes, America has it promise of being the land of opportunity. America is the country of opportunity for starting a better life and better medical. Many people come to America because they see how great it is to start their new life there and most immigrants reason coming to America is because they want their children to get better education.

  • The greatest country this world has ever seen.

Citizens voluntarily lay their life down for others. 95% of all business in the world are in the U.S. and yet we only represent 5% of the population worldwide. If those two reasons aren't enough to love the U.S., call it the land of opportunity, and name it the greatest county on the face of the earth, I don't know what will convince you.

  • U.S. and Democracy

The heart of the U.S.A. "thinks" democratically more than any other country on earth. At the same time, the U.S. has more challenges by anti-establishment groups who attempt to paint themselves as democratic, but who are in fact misleading facsists. I also feel that while free trade has been a good idea, the current WTO is too big, and has not been good for the people; perhaps has worked out better for the pocket lining of corporate CEO's etc. Balance is the key. USA shall prevail. Democracy should be on the front burner of every house hold!

  • Masters degree is a GED these days. My wife has bachelors, and masters degrees and makes less than I do, with no degree at all.

US companies expect you to spend tons of money on an education and then start people out at below living wages. The people who are supposed to be driving the economy come out of school with student loans that compare to a mortgage, and low pay, or no pay, in their field of study. Meanwhile, US companies are hiring H-1B visa holding foreigners and paying them 3-5X as much as equally qualified Americans. The US has become a fascist oligarchy where no level of education or skill guarantees a decent living. Record Profits, Record Poverty. All for the few, and none for the All. As far as the Trickle down and philanthropy argument goes, charitable donations are at an all time low, because the people who have the least give the most, and the people with the most give the least. There are record number of generations living under one roof and the number of teens getting their drivers licenses is at an all time low, because they cannot afford to own a car of drive. Companies shower golden parachutes down upon CEO's and board members while the rest of the workforce gets golden showers. Low wages, ever increasing cost of living, and crumbling infrastructure, while our dysfunctional congress holds the economy hostage, and fails to pass a long term budget because their pay is guaranteed. The future of the US is castles and trailers, and you will rent that trailer. 15 year car payments, and 100 year mortgages coming soon. 30+ years of Trickle down economics and the result is record levels of crime, poverty, and billionaires. The game is rigged, the fix is in, and all hope is lost. Welcome to the new America, the Northern Mexico, vast expanses of poverty, with pockets of extreme prosperity.

  • College degree required to sweep floors and mow lawns!

Basically, you have to have a PhD in order to get a job as a receptionist ... + 5 years of experience:)

It is almost impossible to find a job that pays a liveable wage in America without going into major debt and mental trauma to get a bachelors, and possibly, a graduate degree. Once you have achieved this wonderful task, business now tells you that you are entry level and have to work for free for 5 - 10 years before you can earn enough to take care of your family.

  • Not everyone is given the same opportunities

Many are allowed to go to school for free while others have to pay. Some do not attend because no matter how much their parents make it isn't enough. People with higher power aren't necessarily smarter or better than others yet they are still higher. Many don't learn as quick as others and the dumber kids get sent to a different schools.

  • Not anymore, nope

Job outsourcing and high unemployment have enslaved generations into an unstoppable downward spiral. We waste our time and money killing our citizens in multiple pointless un-winnable wars. We have out priced higher education when we should be making it free. Employers love the high unemployment rate because it drives wages down. Employees are disposable.

  • Experience says no

To put it bluntly, the USA is no longer the land of opportunity. Its political system is dysfunctional and it's economy is a shadow of its former self. Furthermore it is to be said that the cliche the rich are getting richer and poor poorer is sadly true in the USA.
I have lived in both America and Canada and the difference is just astonishing, as much as I love and respect America, I have to say that the land of opportunity is actually Canada and not America, the main reason for this statement is that the ease in which a person can find a job in Western Canada is unbelievable, the wages in Canada are sometimes 3 times as high as its American counterparts. Nothing is stronger than the American spirit , but the Great Recession put a great nation on the ropes. Sure America is better off than the EU but using that same comparison you could say that Israel is doing better than the EU , aka the argument is pointless, my most powerful argument is this: The Canadian province of Alberta is the place in North America with the best labor market source : http://www.Cicsimmigration.Com/alberta-labour-market-north-america-study/ . Good people and willpower don't create opportunity.

  • People Make It Not

America may give us the opportunity or the chances to do things we couldn't in other places, but the people make it to where you can not be open about anything. They make it so you are restricted to a certain choice. Although you may have more choices, society makes it to where there is only one right answer to everything.

  • Bigots and Idiots

What is the point of being labeled as the land of opportunity if half of the people can't access these opportunities? We're riddled with racists, sexists, fascists, and republicans. We are a lot better off than many countries, but for the people that live here, we are far from perfect.

  • More job less

Salaries are getting low every day and forget the benefits what's there 10 years ago.

Hat to say..Yes America is still a land of opportunity but so are other places in the world. My roots reach from Africa so theres no way I can say America is a land of opportunity and not say Africa isnt.

  • No value for advanced degrees

I graduated out of college with a masters in healthcare administration. It has been over two and a half years since i graduated and i still cannot start my career. Quite dissapointed! The healthcare field is supposedly the biggest employer in USA and yet i cannot find work. Sad indeed
