As an American, I do think that Anti Americanism is spreading throughout Middle Eastern countries. Some people thought that they would be grateful that we went in and ousted Taliban and other dictators, but they really only saw us killing their sons and daughters. It is dangerous and it is spreading.
While I do feel that residents of Middle Eastern countries are currently undergoing a wave of anti-americanism, it misses what is motivating this anti-americanism. Much of it is due to America's support for Israel and what is perceived to be a lop-sided preference towards Israel in a final solution for the Palestinian state. The crucial piece of the puzzle in resolving anti-american sentiments is to find a final lasting peace solution to the Israel-Palestinian question.
Yes, anti-Americanism is becoming a major movement among residents of Middle Eastern countries, because they are constantly being told we are to blame for their problems. It is easy to find a scape goat in blaming someone else, instead of trying to make things better for yourself. Middle Eastern residents are constantly told by their governments that they should hate us, which doesn't help.
I believe anti-Americanism, as a movement, is quite normal for residents in Middle Eastern countries. From their standpoint, we've done nothing but cause trouble for them. We took Israel, a land that wasn't ours, and gave it to who we thought it belonged to, without regards to any other country their. We have started many wars in the area, some without reason. Even with all that, Middle Easterners look at Americans as a lazy, non-religious heap of greed. I believe their feelings are befitting.
Anti-Americanism is not becoming a major movement among residents of Middle Eastern countries. The movements have been happening for centuries and will always continue. This is nothing new and nothing that we should be concerned about. There will always be people in other countries that want to blame the United States.
