  • Uniqueness of Art

This art piece makes me curious. The idiosyncrasy of the art piece is beautiful. This is a piece that you can look at and make many theories to side with it. Like the painting above, there are more art works with their own peculiarity. It is expressing emotion with color.

  • Human Intelligence not just mathematical and linguistic!

Human knowledge isn't just based on math and language. Musical, spatial, and bodily/kinesthetic intelligence are all of equal importance. Visual artists and architects are examples of people who show the spatial intelligence, while dancers, actors, athletes and surgeons demonstrate the bodily/kinesthetic intelligence. The arts help people to have a deep understanding of a concept by connecting their incentives, directions, judgments, and rational utilization.

  • Art is both influential and influenced, by nature.

Art , like any piece of culture, is fundamentally both a product and producer of culture. An artist is influenced by hir* environment and culture, for certain. Within this, each artist has a personal internal culture that makes up who they are. This personal culture is often referred to as an identity.

When the art is formed, it must, by definition, begin as a thought, and it is (by the definition of art as a human-made collection of materials, energies, and/or ideas that is intended to inspire a new set of thoughts that must be processed over a period that extends beyond the observance of the art) meant to inspire other thoughts. In people, thoughts have the potential to manifest themselves as actions, and human action has the potential to become a human trend or school of thought. This, along with affecting society, affects the next generation of art, and each generation prior has been affected by the generation before it.

Art, like many human constructions, influences observers and artists by the definition of what it is. This is a silly debate, as anyone who defies this will simply look at a generation that has rejected old norms and assume that art as a whole has been ousted. The "No" crowd is ignorant, no doubt, of influence that has happened in humanity since the first story was told, as well as that which has no doubt occurred their very lives.

Note: While this makes the controversial assumption that academically-inclined papers are art, I stand by it. Collections of words and data must be masterfully constructed, and seek to show a truth just as any great story does.

*This is a gender-neutral pronoun, for the unfamiliar.

  • Yes it is

Yes, I would have to strongly agree that art really is that influential. Art can be a huge stress release for some people and can really calm them, particularly when they are creating their own art. Art can provide insight into other subjects and realms that we did not even know were possible.

  • Yes, it is.

Art takes numerous forms, from visual (painting, sculptures, graphic novels, video games, tv shows, photography) to audio (and all the different genres of music out there) to intellectual (literature of ever sort) to all things in between (such as the scent of a new perfume or the taste of a perfectly prepared dish). Art is the simplification of imagination and creativity in all of its incarnations. A world without art would be a world without imagination or inspiration. Give the movie Equilibrium a watch to have a glance at what such a world might be like.

  • No art is not really that influential

No, I do not believe that art is that influential as too many people nowadays care too little for art. At one time in our society a few hundred years ago art would have been considered influential, but I think it today's society art is largely ignored and has no impact on many people.

  • In isolated cases sure, overall no

The influence of art overall on anything other than future art is wildly overstated. Sure, on occasion something can for better or for worse provoke a major reaction, but that is far from the norm and people that think it's typical really put too much stock in what is either their craft or their passion.
