  • Yes, sometimes bribery is necessary

Bribery is sometimes a necessary evil in this world. Corruption exists in all countries to some degree and obviously we should attempt to avoid it whenever possible. However, in some cases it's a local custom and if you're not willing to adapt the rules of what's right and wrong to different geographies, you'll be locked out of certain markets while your competitors can get a first-mover advantage.

  • Fackin lave it

If a payment is a bribe there must be something legally or morally wrong about the payment.
People are often made to give bribes to officials because of unfavourable conditions. Bribery famously occurs when large businesses pay to be part of a government party which is frowned upon by many in the country.
It is known very dishonest to take and bribe however many high up companies will take bribery in order to make deals for cheap.
To allow bribery, basically means that if you have a ton of money you can use that money to get away with almost anything you want, and there are people and companies that do. It is wrong and should not be able to be done. So no I don't believe bribery is acceptable at all.

  • Love it banter

Bribery is acceptable when bribery is not only legal, but expected It is easy to decide categorically that bribery is unacceptable when we live in a free society. Indeed, there is no place for bribery in a democracy -- agreed. In some other countries, however, (and countries in the old USSR come to mind), the state decides everything, including what a person in a certain occupation shall be paid. In the old USSR doctors were paid poorly in relation to the rest of society because it was accepted that they would be able to augment their income through bribes of coffee, meat, cheese, etc. (Money could not buy much, otherwise I am sure they would have accepted money as well.) In any case, it was expected of them to augment their income in such manner. In a situation like that bribery cannot even be considered a necessary "evil"; it is just the way society worked. (Now, if you were to ask me is communism ever acceptable? My answer is a resounding "no".)

  • Acceptable when the upper authority acted unfairly

How can one be fair when those who hold the upper authority is not being fair themselves? It's gonna be a game of luck in everything and so some act of bribing is necessary, unfortunately, for the sake of not being exploited when you ran out of your luck. It's similar with the understanding that being too nice won't help much either and you'll end up being use.

  • Pay to Play Has No Place in Government Affairs

Bribery of public officials has no place whatsoever. To suggest a politician or police officer can be bought erodes trust in people who are supposed to protect the citizens who elected them. Bribery isn't the impetus for getting things done in America, nor should it be the driving force in the rest of the world either.

  • No I don't think bribery is ever acceptable

It is a dishonest practice, and can allow for much corruption at very high levels in its' worst form. To allow bribery, basically means that if you have a ton of money you can use that money to get away with almost anything you want, and there are people and companies that do. It is wrong and should not be able to be done. So no I don't believe bribery is acceptable at all.

  • Bribery is never acceptable...

Bribery means getting some illegal work done by giving money. Bribery can never be accepted in society as immorality spreads leading to corrupt thinking of the people. It has a tremendous effect on economy and development of a country ! Bribery in a short sense is cheating and unfair way getting any work done.

  • No we should not

First of all it coruept the system it make the officers greedy and other factor when they will be greedy the people who can afford giving bride they will but safe but the people who cant afford that what about them they will be remain in problem . So i request you all that please dont bribe.

  • No never...... Bribery is a way to exploit our nation nothing else....

Hmmm well,,,,, it is simple to say yes or no but for me it implies something...,,, bribery means getting our things or work done in some consideration. But if the amount goes high n high it reaches to corruption or bribery. Those who are earning by their own selves are left unemployed because of those who buys all the public or government jobs on the basis of their false certification or giving bribe to the upper officer of the office.... Is this right,,, that we should make others helpless just to complete our own wishes. This is what bribery is....???? Is this right....??? In elections people who are actually worthy are left behind and those who are nothing goes high just because they bribe to get more votes and later they show their truth by their actions. In this case at the end who will suffer... Our own nation... Our India.... Because of these small small reasons i don't feel like that bribery should ever become legal... Because once it is being legalized it will become right of people and will be misused as and when they want to.

  • my answer is a resounding no...

Bribery is necessarily a closed government.. Which is what we have now thx to the supreme court...It doesnt matter who you vote for anymore ..Whichever candidate wins is legally bound to act in the interests of wealthy campaign sponsors..Who are all on the same side of the issues irregardless of who their sponsoring....

  • No

The person in power, whether it be a law enforcement officer, a politician or even an instructor, is ethically bound to uphold the highest standards and accepting a bribe isn't acceptable. Bribery is a temptation to those who have the means, but it isn't a building block upon which our nation, state or community needs to build.

This response is for an ethics student assignment.
I am strongly against bribery – so answer is No.
Bribery is a form of corruption; whereby a public official abuses his/her position by acting or refraining from acting his/her official duties in order to obtain or retain business or other improper advantage. (Abridged definition from ‘business anticorruption portal’)
Bribery starts, basically when a government official start to accept money for doing things that needs to be done anyway, as part of his normal employment duty. So these ‘people’ get paid twice – once as normal salaries and secondly under the table – which is termed bribe. The bribes are normally accepted in cash and hence no proof of payment and hence escape tax payment as well. Its purely injustice and unfair on loyal employee citizens who do their work as part of the normal employment agreement and take only salary as the payment for it and struggle with their life to meet ends while some of the ‘people’ enjoy the extra benefits of tax free pay on top of regular pay, to live a blissful life, which is just not acceptable. Those ‘people’ shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it like that.
The bribe factor is so embedded in some developing countries, that to get a certificate or legal document, especially from a local government department, it becomes challenging and very time consuming. A straight forward citizen from a civilized, developed and professional world will never realise where actually the bribing factor kicks in. Being originally from a developing country where various forms of corruption exist, I have hands on bitter experience with this. (Don’t want to name the country or any particular office though). I will try to demonstrate how bribery swings into action in offices through one of my real life experience and the need for it to be stopped due to the inconveniences its causes to a layman. To obtain any legal certificate /document the conditions as per law would be around three to five working days, but that never happens. Even if we submit all the relevant documents to the officer, he will start his usual excuse, by asking us to come back after two days when it would be ready. Trusting this, when we return the specified day, either he will be out of office or will say it is not ready by providing further lame excuses and will ask us to come back again. Upon re visiting, he will start turning arrogant without any sense of customer service and say that these things need time and effort to get it done and will not be possible until he gets some extra payment for it. The interesting thing about bribery is that in all the government departments and offices, there is a huge noticeboard which clearly states ‘giving or taking bribe is illegal’. So this makes it tricky for bribing to take place. So the bribe is agreed and given at a place other than the office itself in order to get the things done.
A layman will be forced to give bribe to get the things moving in these circumstances because he might need this document urgently which is required to be produced before another department and if he is on a limited leave, he will require this before the leave finishes. These ‘people’ take advantage of this time factor to lure into bribe for getting things done in time. This becomes ongoing and becomes so embedded within the society and culture of the country. This needs to change. For this proper education and awareness of the effect of bribery on layman need to be passed on to the concerned officials and punished or penalised for doing so. Then only we can cultivate future bribe less and an uncorrupted society. The entire nation is ruined and will never develop if corrupt practices like bribery exist because everyone will just accept money and do whatever they want to satisfy their needs not thinking of the nation or others.
In a bribe driven country, money becomes the power. Any crimes, wrong doing etc or punishment for such action can all be nullified and one can get away from those by giving bribe to the appropriate officials. The effect of that is the layman suffer and will have no where to go for justice. In some countries the entire judicial system is corrupted. Where do we go for help in those places?
According to Norman Bowie (2004, p. 543), Open Polytechnic 2015, Module Five, bribery is morally unacceptable and affects normal functioning of market, because its inconsistent with the concept of market place. Even though bribery is more important in public than in private sector, bribery exists in private sectors too. Dunfee and Donaldson (2004), Open Polytechnic 2015 Module Five, has drawn a line indicating that private sector might contain corrupt practices for private gains. Module also discusses various types of corruption which includes bribery, facilitation payments to support and speed up processes and extortion which uses force by demanding money to get things done. I believe people reading this will get an idea of the negative effects and pain that is caused to a layman due to bribery and recommend stopping bribery by not giving and accepting bribe in those countries to begin a new era of corruption less society and a bribe free nation.
