  • Yes, Commercialism is bad for society.

It is bad for society because its every where and hard to avoid. It shows how people can be happy with all these things and makes you feel like you have to have it so you can "fit in" with everyone else that has one. It makes you think that you need something to be happy so you will go out and buy it. It will also be tempting when it shows you that its on sale for a limited time or its almost out of stock so if you want one now is the best time to get it. So yes if there were no commercialism then the society wouldn't be so tempted to go and buy it for example; while they are sitting on the couch watching T.V. or while the are playing on the internet etc. It is hard to avoid when commercialism is everywhere we look in our society.

  • Capitalism is no more; consumerism has corrupted it.

Capitalism has become commercialism/consumerism as small and medium businesses have been replaced by large internationals which cater to their shareholders. Capitalism is a fantastic concept when it involves the independent entrepreneurs competing to offer consumers the best product at a reasonable price. Capitalism becomes corrupted when the goal shifts from adding value to purely making money. We are in debt to pay for things we don't need, because we were convinced we could not live without certain products. Sad. And what is even sadder is the very people affected by this the most will argue the opposite, because they believe they are one step from being rich. Ha Ha!

  • Consumerism is no longer a choice.

Marketers have become increasingly more adept at subtle manipulation in order to create demand - consumers become compelled to purchase, rather than being "made aware" of a product that might be needed or useful. Further, exposure to media has nearly become 24/7. Tongue-in-cheek, you'd either need to be deaf and blind or live unplugged in an ultra-rural environment to avoid exposure to ads and media.

In other words, we can't avoid being marketed to, and the marketing is just too good.

We commonly hold freedom as a human right and a worthy goal. Yet, we have given away our freedom and have become slaves to corporate marketing.

  • Yes, commercialism is bad for society.

Commercialism is bad for society due to all the technology that allows producers to reach consumers. The lower class is generally not responsible enough to avoid consuming things that they cannot afford. This keeps them from rising in class during their lifetime. A lot of issues that we have with the elderly being unable to afford living would be fixed if commercialism hadn't swallowed up their money.

  • Kills Culture and Talent

Remember good music? Well, commercialism strangled that to death. Rather than base our judgement of artists on their talent- we judge them on their marketability. Globally, local economies are being damaged by monopoly-holding corporations with billion dollar marketing campaigns. In Africa, children are working as slaves to mine coal tan for our computers that are marketed to the wealthy pockets of the world. If all you care about is your own cushy lifestyle and stuffing a hot dog in your face and listening to generic crap music, then sure- commercialism is just fine and dandy. But if you actually take pride in being alive and strive to belong to a society that values quality, you can forget commercialism.

  • To this degree.

To some extent, commercialism is just part of living in a free market society, but it's become much worse nowadays. The expansion of technology has led to more and more "must have" goods and planned obsolescence, not to mention the ability to deliver more advertising (and more focused advertising) to people at all times. Lately, it's gotten completely out of control.

  • Yes, commercialism is bad for society.

Surely commercialism is bad for society because it had driven people to pursue more money regardless of how much they have now or whatever they risk to achieve it. For example we see and hear about new car almost everyday, which makes people who have old outdated cars feel behind others. Therefore, this commercialism has been making people share less with others but send more on themselves, making society more and more desolate.

  • Small businesses employ more people than any other sector in America.

This is possible because in our society, capitalism and commercialism are upheld as the economic standard. As a constitutional republic, founded on the ideals of individual liberty, the small business person is the ideal representative of the pursuit of prosperity. The alternative - communism - has decimated every society it has ever touched.

  • Commercialism is an essential part of a modern, free society

Commercialism is now an essential, needed part of America. The fundamental aspects of innovating economies lie in commercialism and the ability to publicize new products. Commercialism keeps competing companies in check because a variety of companies are able to reach consumers. Commercialism is also an essential part because it pushes for development, modern consumer based societies, welfare for consumers, and a flourishing economy.

  • Commercialism is just life.

Media has been commercializing since humanity created a light bulb. Although not favored by most, commercialism is a way to keep consumer consuming and thereby keeping the economy stable. Is it a way of communicating the details of a product and its price, although sometimes annoyingly so. Youtube videos DO NOT need commercials.

  • No, commercialism is not bad for society

Commercialism inherently promotes capitalism, and in America capitalism and private ownership is fundamental. Without commercialism, capitalism would be incapable of manifesting itself to it's full capacity. Commercialism allows private business owners to invest in a commercialization of a product, which in turn allows the customer to decide whether or not he/she agrees with this commercialized choice.
