  • Who owns it

Democracy is rule by 'the demos' which was never the population at large but the elite who are awarded citizenship by virtue of birth or ownership of wealth & this hasn't changed over the last two or so millennia. The current Demos still own: the wealth and privilage, patronage, elite education, political elite, military elite, trading elite, civil service elite. The wage earning masses generating profits for capital still have little say as they have no wealth. And their hard earned but limited suffrage a sop to revolutionaries.
