Is dictatorship sometimes preferable to democracy

Asked by: MasturDbtor
  • If the public is largely backwards then a dictatorship is better

An extreme example. If a democracy wants to vote to round up minorities and put them into camps, execute homosexuals, turn some people into slaves, and is just generally in favor of the worst barbarisms then that country is not well served by democracy and would do better with a dictatorship that aims to promote liberal values.

  • Dictatorship can be good.

During times of peace, and ease, where people have no fears of impending doom, or terror, they desire the ability to make decisions, since they are comforted by the fact that nothing is going wrong in the world. During times of crisis, however, people tend to shy away from responsibility and tend to fear the threat. Only a select few, or the dictators, are capable of maintaining order, and lead people, since the very people are supportive of the dictator who is doing everything for them.

  • Dictatorship is good sometimes

Sometimes a dictatorship can lead to more things being done rather than having to have committes and meetings and having to vote, sometimes you just have to have someone take control and tell everyone what to do. This is why a dictatorship can be good, but it can depend on the situation.

  • Sometimes, on Occasion.

Despite the other argument being nothing but an ad homonym foam-at-the-mouth rage, Dictatorships can sometimes be good, in case you didn't notice, it didn't say "Nazi Totalitarian Dictatorships". As well as this, you implied Dictatorships are bad unless they do what you want.

Say what you want about Hitler and the Nazi's, but Hitler managed to rebuild Germany from the poorest nation in Europe to the Richest in 4 Years, while of course this was done during a time of lack of free speech and human rights.

Instead, we should look to the roman model. A Dictator would be elected in times of crisis, do his duty and return to a Democracy, it saved Rome plenty of times, in Syria a Dictatorship has stabilised a country to the point where it is now being intentionally destabilized from the outside so you can keep believing they're evil.

Furthermore, just because a lot of people believe it, why does that make it right?

I believe that there should be one educated, smart, calculating dictator, maybe a monarch like centuries before, who would have control of the country and do what was best for it.

My case in point, if everyone votes for another Holocaust, is it right?

If a Dictator fixes a crumbling nation, and leads it towards prosperity, is it wrong?

  • Never worked; why would it now

There's never been a dictatorship that was good or a good place to live in. There are, however, plenty of democracies that have been good places to live.
I think it's obvious that democracy is better, and i see a lot of point saying "Sometimes people can be barbaric"
And a dictatorship can't be? That's all they've ever been.

  • I would say no

Sometimes dictatorship is preferable to democracy, but actually most countries don't even use democracy's anymore, most countries are a republic. Democracy is where the people actually vote and a republic is where we vote for all our representatives. A democracy can be fairly messy (although aren't all forms of government. Although it's messy, a dictatorship is not much better. At first you might have a few good dictators, but then like many times in history you will have very bad ones. Unlike a bad president or council, the dictator actually has complete control. Which means if you have a bad dictator you are stuck with whatever choices they make. With a democracy or republic you would not have that problem.
