I think that there are reasons why gluten is unhealthy now. The wheat products have been engineered and are not the same as our grandparents' wheat. In addition, wheat and gluten are added to many of our processed foods to add thickness and texture and taste. It is why so many of us are finding gluten to adversely affect our bodies.

From what I have noticed after having two family members with an allergy to gluten, it isn't even needed. People also do gluten diets to lose weight, and it helps a great deal. The gluten does not seem like it is very healthy or good for people, so I think it is bad for the body.

  • Unless you have Celiac disease, there's no point in going gluten free.

Gluten itself doesn't offer special benefits, but many of the whole grains that contain gluten do. They’re rich in an array of vitamins and minerals, such as B vitamins, iron, and fiber.

Completely eliminating gluten requires adopting a whole new diet. You would have to up most breads, crackers, breakfast cereals, conventional pastas, pastry goods, and a wide range of processed foods made with small amounts of gluten. And any time you eliminate whole categories of food you've been used to eating, you run the risk of nutritional deficiencies. Gluten free products tend to be low in a wide range of important nutrients.
