Is Islam a religion of violence (yes) or peace (no)?

  • History proves that Islam is indeed a religion of violence.

There are many verses in the Koran that propose the spilling of blood, but most Liberal Western Muslims will think of ways to change the meanings. Nevertheless, History proves that Muhammed committed many atrocities such as the raiding of Caravans from Mecca, beheading of 600-700 Jews at Medina, enslaving of women and children, naming his weapons, assassinations of poets and poetesses, and his use of polygamy and rape. The Hadith also proposes violence and Islam was built on its military and conquering skills. Thank you for hearing me and may God bless muslims everywhere!

  • Just read it once.

Islam is certainly not a religion of peace. Sure, every religion has its extremists and people who twist the religion to fit their desires. That is why we should actually look at what the religion truly teaches and not the actions of its followers. If you look at Islam, it is intrinsically violent. Quran 9:5 says, "And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." Emphasis on "kill the polytheists wherever you find them". This is clearly a far cry from a religion of peace.

  • Islam may not be bad, but the misinterpretations of it is.

I thank The Lord and Minot a Muslim. I guess it boils down to a different culture? Where they feel that to them it is acceptable to abuse women, abduct women, have many wives, incest, and much more... I guess as being me who is more civilised, am not used to the idea of what they do. I don't like Muslims and how they always have to say inshallah - In the bible God gave us a freedom of choice. It is OUR own choice to decide what we do, look at 9/11 for example, and to think, some celebrate it!!!!???!!!! So no Islam is not a religion of peace. Because if they were the they wouldn't have done what they've been doing and yea Christians may have been bad, but that was in the past and SURELY the Muslims would have learnt ? But they haven't. They are just sickening bastards with their heads to far up their cracks who like to bomb people. - guess its a different culture.

  • Almost 4 out of 10 Muslims worldwide are extremists who think 9/11 was totally/partially/somewhat justified.

Also 91 percent of all honor-related killings around the world are carried out by Muslims. It is not a small sect who are radically misinterpreting the Qur'an. There interpretation is valid, and therefore islam promotes violence. The Qur'an is not like the bible which has an old testament that was meant for a certain time and cannot be taken literally today. All of it's teachings are meant to be taken seriously even today and so verses such as 8:12 cannot be said to be only applicable to the past. It clearly states that unbeleivers are supposed to kill infidels. It promotes violence.

  • Islam is violent

The Quran and the Hadiths espouse violence, and the history of Islam shows it to be a very violent religion. The Islamic World is also the most violent part of the world, and general violence and intolerance is promoted within the Islamic religion. Muhammad was also a very violent man.

  • READ THE QUARAN PEOPLE

Hadith 9:4 "Wherever you find infidels kill them; for whoever kills them shall have reward on the Day of Resurrection."
Hadith 19:4294 "Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war."
48:29: "Those who follow Muhammad are merciless for the unbelievers but kind to each other."
Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
Quran (48:29) - "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves"

  • No, Islam is a religion of peace.

If you read the Koran, you will see that it has a message of tolerance and peace. But like any religion, it suffers from extreme fanatics who twist the words of the Koran for their own purposes. These kind of people have an agenda that is different from the rest, and it is only meant for them to pursue their own goals.

  • Violence is everywhere, why only blame Islam?

If you read the Quran it clearly defines and restricts violence, but allows it if no other option remains. It teaches us to serve all mankind whether Muslim or not. And Allah likes those who forgives. Our prophet (PBUH) forgave the murderer of his uncle! Actually, the illiterate people who do not know Islam spread violence.

  • They are peaceful

As someone who was in New York City on the day of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, I can say without hesitation that Islam as an entire religion is a peaceful one. We cannot let the acts of a few isolated individuals turn our opinions against an entire group.

  • It's like any other religion and subject to interpretation.

The big thing about a lot of these religions is that the way the people practice their religion is a direct reflection of who they are on the inside.

If somebody is using the Muslim faith to justify violence and hate, then that person is a hateful, violent crazy person that would be violent and crazy no matter what they believed or what culture they belonged to.

  • No, they are a religion, a nation of peace.

It may not seem like it, by the biased propaganda we receive in the States, but Islam centers around peace, and following God's will by doing acts of good to others and personal holiness. There are Islamic radicals who take scriptures and teaching by Mohammad and other popular figures and run hog-wild with it, but that is simply not the norm, nor the true essence of Islam. A popular parallel would be the Crusades. That was Christian, extremist series of acts, but not the norm for Christianity as a whole.

Neither. It's a religion, it's peaceful or violent depending on your personal interpretation and there's no point in having a personal interpretation if you don't believe in it (which I don't)
