President Barack Obama made headlines when he stated that he was working towards allowing a "public option" for his system of medical coverage known as "Obamacare." This is an excellent step forward because it allows people more flexibility when it comes to the incredibly important human right of access to medical treatment.
People on Medicare are largely happy with their insurance, so there's no reason to think the government can't provide good insurance as Republicans claim. In fact, an agency that isn't out to make a profit should be able to better serve people. Having good health care shouldn't be limited to the rich.
Yes, it is a good idea to have a "public option" for Obamacare. Obamacare is the nation's health care system, so it would make sense to have a public option for that. Everyone deserves the opportunity to benefit from Obamacare, not just specific people. Health care should be made public.
It is a great idea to have a public option for Obamacare because the only way that Obamacare can work is if there is competition. In its current form, there is very little competition due to the restriction of not being able to buy insurance across state lines. Let capitalism work its magic for health insurance.
