Is L. Ron Hubbard The Master an accurate portrayal of the Scientologist way of life?

  • Not Officially Affiliated

The Master is actually a film created by Paul Thomas Anderson, who refuses to draw an official lines between the content of the film and Scientology. The church claims no members have seen it and they have no comment on it. But for those aware of Scientology and those familiar with the movie, it is clear that the premise is connected and the film doesn't have much to say about the religion that is beneficial to it.

  • No, this film is not about Scientology, so it cannot disparage it

Everyone associated with this film has repeatedly denied it was about Scientology,
though there are some similarities. The main character physically resembles the
founder of Scientology somewhat, and he left the army and founded a group at
about the same time that L. Ron Hubbard did. However, because the filmmakers
pointedly were not making a film about any specific group they were free to
create a cult that suited their dramatic needs. Viewers have no reason to
believe the film portrays the Scientologist way of life inaccurately, since it clearly
does not portray it at all.

  • L. Ron Hubbard The Master

I personally think that the L. Ron Hubbard The Master is an accurate portrayal of the Scientologist way of life. Former Scientologists have noted that the main character in the film is based straight out of the religion, and the screenplay screams Scientology as well. They remarked they do not know how anyone can say otherwise.

  • No, he is not.

I think if L Ron Hubbard were alive, he would be appalled by what has happened to his vision of scientology. When you read the man, you know he is not cult like or trying to scam people or rip them off. He would not be an accurate portrayal at all.
