  • The word 'sin' means an ACT that DISPLEASES God.

There are sins that God has clarified very clearly through His messengers and His revealed word in the form of holy scriptures. There are many sins, and when one acts on a sin, it is an act that is displeasing to God. God however, is All-Forgiving, Ever Merciful, He can forgive all sins by making it a part of His Will, and nothing more, but if you continue sinning, then His punishment inflicts, to correct you.

Lust is a sin, transgression is a sin, also, entering through the doors that lead to greater sins are also sins. Masturbation and Pornography, are like drugs, they are gateways to greater sins, they affect your life in very negative ways, (for example-too much porn will give you less pleasure in your sex life with your spouse), they will lead you to commit fornication/adultery which are major sins. Also, these things are addicting, anything addicting, especially stuff like this, is something God does not like, for you.

God Himself created these types of desires to be fulfilled in a marriage, not outside of it. You are not meant to be fulfilling these sexual tendencies outside of marriage, and with nobody else, except for your spouse, husband or wife. Anything outside is unlawful, and a major sin. It is disobedience to the Will of God, and also has many problems associated with it and lead to destruction.

When God says something is harmful, or not good for you, or if God commands humans to stay away from something. Don't be blind, search on it and find out why, and obey the Lord, for He knows best, and you know not.

  • Yes, They are Sins of Lust

Both masturbation and porn are sins of lust, and under certain circumstances can be considered mortally sinful.

Pornography impairs the brain to allow it to love. Porn treats the body as a tool for sex and pleasure and not for love, which is what God designed our bodies for. Porn is considered a mortal sin when you are aware it is mortally sinful, and purposely look at it to the point of addiction. Be careful, porn can become addicting extremely fast and is the fastest way to impair the human ability to love others and treat others bodies with the respect they deserve.

Masturbation also impairs the ability to love by treating sex like a tool for pleasure, and not for love. Like porn, it makes us look at others as sex play things and not like human abilities and takes away our ability to respect others bodies and love others. Masturbation is considered a mortal sin when you are aware it is a mortal sin, but choose to do it anyway. In circumstances of addiction, it is not considered a mortal sin as long as you put forth a strong effort to stop doing it. The same goes for pornography.

    Hope this helped!

  • I had a religious friend once.

Super annoying guy. I mean, incredibly, stupendously annoying. If you could put his annoyingness on a scale, it would be off the f*cking charts. I mean Jesus, this guy could wake up the dead with how annoying he was with his religious bullsh*t. It just made you want to pull your dad's revolver out from under the bed and shoot the f*cker several times in the nuts just to make him shut up, and then yourself a few times in the head to make sure you wouldn't be annoyed by the f*cker ever again.

Oh, my point is that my friend said it's a sin, and he was probably right.

  • Masturbation is a completely healthy and normal part of sexuality.

Of course, the concept of "sin" is ridiculous in the first place. But if we are discussing a moral "wrong", no. Masturbation is proven by a host of medical studies to be both physically and psychologically healthy. The repression of normal human sexuality by the religious is highly damaging to society and health.

  • Masturbation and porn is a sin in abrahamic religions, but there is no actual way to classify anything as a sin non religiously.

In Abrahamic religions such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism masturbation and porn is in fact a sin. The real question what is the definition of a sin in the question, is it in regards to overall living because there are no actual sins which can be classified to someone living other than what their morality chooses as a sin. So in which case, It is not a Sin in anything other than the Abrahamic religions.

  • Sin Requires the Divine

Sin is, by definition, a transgression against divinely written laws. It has never been demonstrated that anything divine actually exists, therefore we cannot say that the concept of sin actually maps to anything real in the world. Without evidence of a God, I see no reason to accept any law allegedly written by him.

  • I don't think it is because...

Biblically masturbation isn't referred to same as smoking wasn't mentioned but it don't mean it didn't happen .. The mix up where masturbation is saw as wrong is with the story of Onan and how he spilled his seed to not fulfill his duty to raise up his first son as his brothers since he married his wife when he died...Also where contraceptive is saw as bad... Initially yes we should have sex to procreate but its also made for pleasure ...
Later when Christ states any man that looks at a women with lust has already committed adultery its taken to be a married woman ... Look at the law prior and it tells if a man lies with a virgin or maiden he shall pay restitution or ask for her hand in marriage if the father permitted .. So even then it wasn't like all children were born under union of marriage... If you look at song of songs it tells of oral sex even in what it says .. To climb someone like a tree ..To taste their fruit... I don't believe masturbation is wrong except with the intent of whom it is you think of .. If you think of no one or don't watch porn its nothing than like itching your heel and it feels really good or a qtip in the ear even so I believe ecspecially as sin is more referred to in the bible and a religious or spiritual view that its the why of it ....

  • "Sin" is a human concept.

Sin isn't really a meaningful word. Who determines sin? Everybody except you. And do they all have the same definitions? Of course not. It's completely subjective and meaningless.

    Now, I'll answer this question

    "Is masturbation -wrong-?"

    Short answer: no.

    Helps to prevent prostate cancer-
Primary purpose is for "sex ed" before the days of spoken language.
Develops the mind, the sexual identity and body of adolescents.

Completely healthy, found everywhere in nature, (even though nature itself is a meaningless word) and doesn't really harm anyone or anything.

  • Nope its not a sin

Now, I actually am religious, a Catholic in fact, but I think its a sin to really abuse masturbation, like if you do it like five times a day. Normal moderate levels of masturbation have proven to be healthy, an come on, religious or not, 90% of all dudes do it, so don't tell other people its a si when you dang well know you do it to.

I can't choose yes or not because I don't think masturbation is a sin but I think porn is a sin. Porn causes so many problems, hormone imbalance, the way you think about man/women, addiction, and even becoming a pervert. On the other hand Masturbation is actually healthy.

Wait. Masturbation and porn are two different things.

(i saw the poicture used for this opinion.) Did anyone else notice it was a left hand? Shouldn't it be the right hand?

If anything should be a sin, it's being inappropriately involved in other people's personal business, especially their masturbation habits. Seriously, it's just creepy. Worry about yourselves.

I agree with you @Vinniedabest, masturbation may not be a sin and may not cause problems, but the tools we use for masturbation are a totally different story. Like you say for porn, there has been a substantial amount of evidence that shows the harmful effects it has on the human mind, and overall, on society.
