I want to examine this question from both a religious and secular perspective. In a religious context, sex is regarded as sinful to a large extent. All the mainstream world religions teach that sex is to be reserved for two people who are happily married. The largest Christian denomination, the Catholic Church recognizes that humans are sexual beings and that sexuality is a God-given gift that allows them to become co-creators of life. It also teaches that this gift must be used properly; sexual relations are to be reserved for married couples. The Wicca religion also asserts that sex is a natural, positive and life-affirming act but makes no distinctions between sex before or after marriage. When you take religion out of the equation, it becomes an individual matter; everyone must make their own choices about their bodies.
