It is a distracting device used by mostly teens and advertising companies, and some adults use it as well. People who uses social media thinks that it validates their existence. They start to get desperate and obsessed with "Likes" on their photos which also contributes on how they value themselves with popularity and status, whereas in reality they lose hope. However, not everything about social media is concentrated on the worst. There are many uses to it such as connecting and communicating between friends and family. Social media also takes a big toll on teens and adults, mostly teens, addiction on virtual devices and getting distracted. As a teen, I say it is a waste of time, spending multiple hours on youtube videos or on facebook news feed, I find myself wasting a lot of time that could be sacrificed for education and more productive things. According to research, over 80% of my community own a phone and has social media apps installed, many people stare at their phones everywhere, whether its in the washroom or during a date.

People can get by just fine without contributing to the narcissistic timesink that is social media. For ages, networking took place in person, conversations took place in person, and people were not reduced to photographs and profiles that proved just how social and normal they were. It's something you can do outside, with people, actually learning to interact and not getting obsessed inside of your own headspace about how you appear.
I don't think social networking is a waste of time because if it is used generously it can be the best source of knowledge for everyone .
No matter where the person lives he can be in touch with his family every time . It is currently the most useful tool.
How can it be a waste of time if its so popular? You have parents who let their 7 and 8 year olds have Instagram and dont think its a problem. Whether you thinks it or not, a majority of the people who say that Social Media is pointless, have it themselves. My mom even said it, and yet has a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Its teally just for fun and isnt mean't for you to dedicatr your life to (and a lot of people know that). It's just one of the many ways to communicate.
Social networking is not a waste of time. Social networking is a way for everybody to be connected and be able to communicate with each other no matter where in the world they are. It is not a waste of time because if we did not have some form of social networking then the Internet would not be as exciting as it is.
We should take social networking for what it is entertainment. There are many people who enjoying going on and either sharing things about their lives or reading about other people's lives. It is basically widespread gossip. If it is fun for you to do then it is not a waste of time.
Social media is only a waste of time if you are addicted to such ventures. In general, social media helps maintain connections between friends and family. Social media also lets people make business connections for job opportunities. Social networking can impact newsmaking events such as the Arab Spring to affect political change. Social media isn't a waste of time--the new method of communication has been a game changer for millions of people.
For many people, social networking is a waste of time. Individuals that actually know how to network find it invaluable though. Proper social networking can help a person land their next job or income opportunity. With that in mind, nobody should underestimate the power of social networking in this day and age.
Social networking can allow friends to reconnect after decades apart. It can also be used in the workplace, allowing colleagues to exchange information and coordinate on projects and tasks, 24/7, 365 days a year. In addition, it allows for those who are lonely in the real world to find solace in the digital world, without becoming trapped.
Many people like to talk to there friends, And for the people who have close friends that may have either moved, lost their phone, Don't have a phone.. Etc. Then how else can they communicate? For the friends who don't have phones then social networking is the only other option.
It is actually a use of time! When people are bored they can talk to friends, ask for ideas and just have fun! Could they do that without them? Of course not they would be so bored and tired an do nothing with their life! Or they could invite a friend over to hang!
