  • Space exploration is worthwhile and may be necessary in the future

While there are more pressing economic and social issues now than space exploration, it is a worthwhile pursuit. As the Earth's population increases and some of our resources dwindle, space could be a potential source of living space and some resources to replace those we have exhausted. There is so little we know about space and so much we can learn.

  • The exploration of our Solar System is more deserving of tax revenue than any other endeavor.

You could argue that we need to spend money on creating jobs, or military, or even social programs. None of those are thinking long-term about the very survival of our species on this planet. All the guns in the world won’t help us when the sun blisters our skin and all the farmland has turned to sand. According to Xu Duanyang in an article for the Academic Search Premier, “…the human activity was the dominant factor that controlled the desertification expansion process between 2000 and 2010” (11-22). That article talks about over-farming in northern China, and how it is turning the region into a giant desert. We over-farm because of our over-population. If we continue thinking that the human race can solve all its problems with just the planet earth, we will destroy it.

  • Yes space exploration is necessary

As humans we are running out of space and resources on our planet. We should have been looking for new ways of living and different resources years ago but now we have become dependent and are over populating our own planet. Unless people believe we need to do population control we will have to explore space in order to make a new home and give earth another chance without humans on it.

  • I don’t think that space exploration is necessary.

I don’t think that space exploration is necessary. We should focus more on what we do here on
planet earth than we do exploring space.
We have too many unresolved problems here that need to be dealt with. If we used the space exploration money to
deal with social issues, we would all be better off.
