    Sunday is right before monday. Monday is the start of the school week, which is why it is often confused for the start of the week. On the other hand Sunday is before the start of the school week and before the 1st day of the weekend. Also in some religions the seventh day is when god finished his work and took a break.

    International standard ISO 8601, Monday is the first day of the week followed by Tuesday and ending with Sunday. In the Chinese language, Monday is translated to 星期一 which literally means"day one of the week". Additionally, "mon" is a Greek root that means "one". Finally, I think Monday is the first day of the week because I think the weekend of rest should come after the work week.
