The government is the cause of the income gap in the United States and here is why. The social security program says that, at a bare minimum, you will get X amount of money. People that only want X amount of money are not going to work and just remain poor.
Income inequality in the United States is not largely a result of the digital divide in communications access. In fact, it is simply due to personal motivation and drive. People who make excuses for having less income do so because they do not make the same life choices as people that make more money. This is not an external issue. This comes from within each person themselves in every decision they make for their lifestyle and career.
There has been a large gap in income in the US for many years so it cannot be primarily or even largely due to the digital divide. The main causes for this divide have to do with reasons beyond the control of individuals at the lower end of the income spectrum including low wages, education inequality, and cultural/social capital that more affluent children inherit from their parents that less affluent children will not.
I do not think that the income inequality that we face in the United States today is due to the digital divide in communications access. I think that while people who are able to have access to the Internet have a better chance for a successful career, I do not think that it is the sole reason for the income inequality.
No, the income inequality in the United States is not largely a result of the digital divide in communications access, because it is not the lack of communication that is the problem. Rather income inequality is caused by people who are not willing to work, and people who have been raised to be lazy and dependent on others.
