  • Loss of culture

Whenever you modernize a culture most people do not take the time to actually care about the people. • The modernization of society is good.

The modernization of society is good. When society takes leaps and strides towards becoming modern, every person in that society benefits. With all the technological advancements that our society has made just in the past 10 years, our quality of life has greatly increased. We are living longer, better lives due to modernization.

  • Yes, Modernization has Allowed Society to Advance, and Hopefully Will Continue

Modernization is a very general term, and of course it involves both good and bad outcomes, but overall modernization has been overwhelmingly good for humanity. Medical advances allow us to identify and treat diseases, leading to longer, healthier lives. Communication and transportation advances allow us to continue to grow both technologically and socially by encouraging people to work together globally and understand different cultures and belief systems. This has lead to fairer treatment in general of most people, and although it is arguable that weapons development and war has been a negative result of modernization, it is also becoming less acceptable to use violence in general and hopefully that trend will continue to allow only the positive results of modernization to remain.

  • Humans are too attached to their phones.

Although there are many positives of modernization, I would say that the majority is negative. Go out into public and look around you. What do you see? I see tons of people staring down at their phones. Sure, there are SO many great things you can do on an phone, but really? And is social media really helping people to connect, or is it weakening connection? I would say the latter. When people hang out with each other nowadays, instead of having a conversation, they're ignoring each other and scrolling through social media. People are missing so much in life because they are distracted by their phones. It's so sad. An MIT student is creating a device that you connect to your head, and can search up questions on the internet simply by thinking them. I'm sure most people would think this is awesome, but really? Do we need the internet attached to our heads? Society is lazy enough as it is. Kids in South Korea are being taught about phone addiction- it's a real thing and its serious. Check out Black Mirror, a TV show about high-tech futures where there are serious consequences to technology. If we don't stop now, we're going to destroy so many of the things in life that really matter.
