Is the portrayal of women in movies solely responsible for increasing crimes against them?

  • The portrayal of women in the movies is responsible for the crime rates against them.

Women, in general are often shown as the more inferior sex. In movies they are displayed to be used by men as they pretend to show that they are the gender with lesser rights. Though in the 21st century everyone says men are equal to women, the media still shows women as an inferior gender. I truly believe media is responsible for the increase in crime rates against women.

  • The portrayal of women in movies has very little to do with the increase in crimes against women

As the economy of a nation deteriorates and violence against other countries in the form of wars increases, men feel more powerless. This has a lot to do with the increase in crimes against not only women but racial and religious minorities. We have the rise of Hitler as an example as the German economy deteriorated and the rise in crime against women in the USA as our own economy went into crisis. However, crime rises in general as the population rises. Since women are seen as the "weaker gender" they become the easier target for crime. Movies have very little if anything to do with this. They just showcase what is happening in the real world, not cause it.

  • Portayal of Women in Movies Not Sole Reason for Increase in Crime

The portrayal of women in movies is not solely responsible for increasing crimes against women. It is a contributing factor, but it is not the only factor. Women are portrayed poorly in many forms of media including video games, television shows, etc. There are many factors that contribute to violence against women, not just one factor.
