Back in 2000, the dysfunctional family category was held by the very popular show, Malcolm in the Middle. When the show ended in 2006, there was another show created three years later called The Middle and it seemed...Oddly familiar. In Malcolm in the middle, the show was based around Malcolm: the middle child. He had 3 brothers all together (until another boy was adding some years later) that lived with him in the house. Older and younger. They were poor and couldn't afford much and they were always causing trouble. The Middle has three kids in the same situation and a family that's always in debt. Coincidence?
