  • Russia and China spend a fraction of what the US spends on a military budget.

Currently, US spends approximately $600 billion, whereas Russia spends around $60 billion and China spends around $130 billion on military expenses. If Eastern European invasion of Russia is a concern, NATO must be strengthened, which means coalition members must increace military budget a little. In the point of security, we would be safe by cutting military budget to improve the economy. While spreading democracy and fighting radical groups are important, other countries must support the effort. This is where the leadership of the US hedgemon must take place instead of dealing every problem by ourselves.

  • Leave America now

I should not have to explain this to everybody. The U.S. Military budget for one year could pay for 10 plus years of healthcare, food, etc. You know you are being cheated by your politicians and the military industrial complex. You might think all that money is making something, but their tech is lame and third world countries can shoot down U.S. stealth planes. It is a con to steal your money. Thank God or whatever you believe because I have expatriated and America is going down. You either create a government of the people where you vote daily on issues and not by representatives in congress and you are all active or you are and will continue to suffer. Think how many of your kids are starving or eating Monsanto crap. How poorly educated you have become. How few days you have to relax and vacation. Now comes the loss of your false freedom of a police state and the stealing of all your bloated deflated currency. I think Peter Griffin said it best in Grind My Gears...I used to hope and try to help all of you but now I will always be your enemy because your ignorance allowed this to happen while I tried in vain to stop the evil and wake America up. You deserve your fate.

  • This large budget causes others to suffer.

Do the words HEALCARE, WELFARE and EDUCATION mean anything to you? If so, think to yourself: Why are these so far below the guns and war toys of grown men on the priority scale of the government in America. We are the country with the largest military budget on earth, and you can see the people of the country suffering because of it.

  • Absolutely

Currently, the US military is consuming about 5% of the country's GDP. Cutting the military budget would benefit the country in several ways. First and foremost, it would deal a decently sized blow to the bloated deficit. It would also benefit the economy, as the military is consuming enormous amounts of resources that could be used elsewhere in American industry. And having such a large standing army tends to result in America getting dragged into wars and foreign intervention more easily.

  • Yes

Yes I do think that our defense budget is too large. If spending was cut in this area, it would help the deficit. I think our military spending is too high because we keep going to war with countries that do not want us there. If we concentrated on protecting our country, and not everyone else's, the budget could be greatly reduced.

  • The US spends around as much on defense as the rest of the world combined.

While it is important to maintain a strong defense, the current US defense budget is beyond bloated. Currently, the US spends approximately as much money on defense as the rest of the world combined. This is simply not necessary or responsible, especially considering current budget problems. The US needs to readjust its budget to reflect the winding down of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

  • Yes. It is enormous.

The US spends more on defense than any other nation by a long shot. Part of this is our fear and paranoia, and part of this is our aggressive policing of the world on a solitary basis when we should be working through international organizations. But there is a military industrial complex that benefits from all the spending, and the American people have effectively been brainwashed to believe that we are in constant danger unless we spend billions upon billions of dollars.

  • Yes.

As of right now the US defense budget is too large. We are spending way too much on a War that should be over. Also in terms of our economy the United States simply can not afford a huge army, and navy. Despite this I believe that the defense budget is being cut, as it should be.

  • WAR with Russia

The US global hegemony secures international trade lanes and prevents power blocks from forming (like Serbia trying to reconstitute Yugoslavia) which lessens the risk of war all around the world. Should we cut out military down to the bare minimum- i.E. Defending just our own borders- several large nations like Russia and China would seize the opportunity to swallow up their vulnerable neighbors, like the Baltics and Japan. In the long run, this would severely injure our overall budget. We are on the verge of war!
