  • The poor have become scapegoats for many of the country's financial problems.

The ongoing economic crisis has driven many to wonder how our government is spending money. Although a great deal of money has been spent on war in the past decade, some citizens have been convinced by conservative politicians, many of whom are profiting from war and oil through business deals, that money is being squandered on social welfare programs to assist the poor. Because of this, the poor have become scapegoats for many of the country's financial problems. In this context, there is a war on the poor.

  • The poor are only at war with themselves.

There is no war on the poor. The poor have many opportunities to bring themselves out of their circumstances if they would just take the risk. There are many avenues for the poor to get extra education and training that are not being used as much as they should be. Also I believe that in order for a family to break out of being poor it may take a few generations to accomplish. If every generation strives to do greater than the last the families situation would turn around.
