  • Tolerance is not love

I can tolerate someone and be hateful of them. Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. When people say that Northern Europe is tolerant of others, keyword: they're tolerant, not accepting. 50 years ago many of those countries were involved in vicious imperialism and oppressing other groups. Keyword: accepting is not the same as tolerance.

  • People forget the definition

People forget that the definition of tolerance involves putting up with all things - not that people should like everything, or that some things are ok not to be tolerant with. Tolerance places a lot of emphasis on race and sexuality, but 'tolerant' people readily vilify people whose beliefs and personal points of view counter their own.

  • Is a banana more an apple than a banana?

I think what you meant to say is "Is tolerance acceptance or not?" In this case it can go both ways. Some people who are tolerant accept others. Other people who are tolerant do not accept others. There is no way to prove anything to be true, because we do not know everything. Everybody would agree that a rock is hard today. However, years in the future, something may be uncovered that suggests that our senses have been fooled by some unknown property. Disagree? Prove me wrong.

  • Tolerance is accepting everyone, no matter what their personal choices may be.

Tolerance focuses on the acceptance of all people, despite their race, religion, or sexual orientation. Intolerant people not only do not accept someone's lifestyle that differs from their own, but wants to get rid or outlaw lifestyles that differ from their own as well. Tolerance means you do not judge another person's choices or beliefs, even if they do differ from you own, and even fight for their rights to have their different opinions.
