'Journal of Sex Research Study': Are porn viewers more likely to see woman as equals than non-viewers?

  • No responses have been submitted.
  • Objectification is not Equality

I think anyone who claims to be pro-woman but who watches porn has started objectifying women to the point of simply being there for pleasure.

Furthermore the secondary effects on human trafficking, forced abortions, even horrible rapes and torture, are not to be ignored and are in no way pro-woman.

  • Most porn viewers are male so they will see women as eye candy rather than equals.

People who watch porn do it so they can feel excited and stimulated. They get turned on by the actresses (or actors) in the films and probably look at the people in the films as lesser of human beings because of the jobs they are in. They are fun to watch, but not respected as people.

  • Porn viewers are more likely to identify as feminists but this doesn't mean a lot.

Porn viewers tend to view themselves as more sexually liberated and liberal than people who do not watch poronography. As liberalism and feminism go hand in hand, it would make sense that porn viewers are more likely to self-identify as feminists. However, just because a more conservative individual does not identify with the label of 'feminist' doesn't mean that they don't view women as equals. This is a misleading conclusion to draw from this research.

  • A lot depends on how women are portrayed in a particular porn work

Male porn viewers most likely view porn that is based on male fantasies. The female performers would then be seen as being there to fulfil those fantasies, rather than as separate people with their own desires and needs. A porn movie which takes both genders' perspectives into consideration and portrays sex as being pleasurable for all involved, rather than an act of violence against anyone involved in the act would be more likely to promote the view of women as equals.

'Journal of Sex Research Study': Are porn viewers more likely to see woman as equals than non-viewers. Though the study suggests so, it is very difficult to agree or disagree because on the other side of the debate, according to radical feminists porn is mostly objectification of women and hence degrading. In any case, the impact of porn viewing would have vastly different results on the basis of one's religious and cultural beliefs. Porn viewers who believe in subordination of women will continue viewing both porn and women as unequal.
