It is one thing to have a child and get rid of the child because of a pet. But if you decide to get a pet instead of a child, it is very understandable. What I really do not understand is how this bothers other people. If they want to have a child and not a pet, then GO FOR IT. But they need to realize that they do not need to micromanage other people's lives. Some people are infertile and may decide to have a pet. That is a great thing because there are MILLIONS of pets that have no home. There are also millions of animals being euthanized each and every year. Innocent animals are killed. I really believe that a person should have a pet, if they would rather.
It helps train you for having responsibilities. People can become better parents from owning a pet, it's easier to tell if your ready for a giant commitment like a child. And you should have pets while you have children, pets teach kids to be more compassionate and responsible. Pets Rule

Not everyone has to have children and not everyone has to have pets. Some people have children, some people have pets, some people have both, and some people have neither. It's a personal choice. You're not a horrible person just because you decide not to have children. In fact if you are having any doubts about whether you'd want to raise children you shouldn't have them just yet. Wait until you are sure about it if that ever comes.
Pets also have feelings, no less than humans. The childless couples sometimes keep pets instead of adopting a child. The pet acts as their own child. Only because they can't speak, we think that they don't have any feelings. But they express their feelings through other ways. Once we adopt a pet, the pet recognises us as its owner.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for keeping pets. That doesn't mean pets can be substitutes for children in any way. Most people who keep pets instead of children (yes, there are such people - google 'keeping pets instead of kids') cite their inability to raise children, because apparently, they don't have the time or patience required. Have they considered that raising children is their greatest duty towards their ancestors? Without human children, who will inherit the spirit of their ancestors, the ideals and values of their parents? 'There are three things which are unfilial, and to have no posterity is the greatest of them.' (Mencius 7.26)
Guys! Dogs are dogs! Cats are cats! Children are living people! Dogs, cats, etc, they should be kept in even zoos! People treat pets too well! They don't even call themselves openers because its apparently…..Mean. No! So if you had a choice between a child or a dog. Some people will actually choose the dog! Why?! Children are living people that should be treated like a living human being!
