Laser pointer crimes: Should people who point lasers at others face assault charges?

  • It causes eye cancer.

People who point laser pointers at people should at least get punched in the face. First of all it is very annoying and pointless and second of all it could cause eye cancer or just plain ruin your eye sight. I never understood the thrill of flashing a laser point in someone's eye but easily amused morons seem to like but that doesn't take away from the idiocy of it all.

  • Yes, people who point lasers at others should face assault charges if the laser does or has the potential to do damage to the other person

Yes, people who point lasers at others should face assault charges if the laser does or has the potential to do damage to the other person. Pointing a laser at another person can cause eye damage. This is something that the law should take very seriously and make sure that it is stated very clearly with the laser purchase.

  • It is intended to hurt others.

A person who points a laser puts others at risk. A laser can cause a plane to crash. A laser pointed at an athlete can make a person crash into another athlete and hurt them. People who knowingly do this to others are putting lives at risk. It's important to hold them accountable.

  • Of course not!

Look what our world has come to. People want to consider shining light on others a crime. Obviously, lasers shouldn't be shined at operating vehicles. It's stupid! Then what? Licenses to carry laser pointers? After all, someone is convicted for shining a laser at someone can't handle a laser again. Some things should be left alone. This topic is one of them.

  • Disagree, laser pointers are not lethal weapons just annoyances.

Imprisoning people for pointing a laser pointer in someone's face is overkill. Unless other violence or harassment has occurred, jail terms are unjustified for what is probably a misguided prank. We already have overcrowded jails and a society of people who are so reliant on frivolous lawsuits that getting along and being decent have gone out of vogue.
