Literal interpretation of the Bible: Can the Bible be interpreted literally?

  • Sure, and so can Harry Potter

Basically yes the Bible can be interpreted literally, but it shouldn't be. I can't tell anyone how to practice their religion, but I believe like many other devout Christians I know, that the Bible should be taken "with a grain of salt." When you take the bible literally you end up with sexist, homophobic bigots, and does our society really need anymore of those?

  • No, the Bible cannot be interpretted literally.

The Bible was written at various times throughout history and in my opinion was not meant to be read literally. Different books and scriptures need to be examined for the time they were written in and see how that scripture would apply today. It takes a lot of work to understand what was written in the Bible.
