Many newspapers have broken longtime traditions of not endorsing any candidate for president in order to discourage voters from voting for Trump: Should all newspapers refrain from endorsing any one candidate?

  • Private Companies Can Do What They Please

It is absolutely irresponsible for members of the media to claim journalistic integrity and endorse a candidate. There are overt and obvious exaggerations, omissions, and misrepresentations seen at papers such as the NYT and others.

But.. These are for profit companies that are creating a product to sell to consumers. The fan base of some newspapers are not interested in all aspects of the issues. This year, we have learned that Hillary can be trusted with secrets and The Donald cant be trusted with your wife. These two issues drowned out every issue that we needed to see coverage on. The articles and slants the papers run with are based on business decisions. If they were forced to operate any other way, America would be (more) doomed.

  • Yes, newspapers should refrain from endorsing a candidate.

All the media and newspapers need to remain objective about reporting the news and political events. It is obvious that some media is leaning toward a candidate but they need to avoid endorsements. The point of newspapers is to distribute the news and offer an opinion page for those who want to promote their views. Unfortunately, newspapers have owners and political pressures also.

  • Media Should be Unbiased

Newspapers should not endorse a presidential candidate because they are supposed to be completely impartial and not involved in any way except for reporting the news and that's it. Neutrality eliminates bias in newspapers. It is irresponsible for a supposedly neutral media source to endorse a candidate even though Trump is a disaster.

  • They can do as they choose

I think it's a fine idea for newspapers to endorse certain candidates, even when breaking tradition to do so. This election has been a very trying time for many people, and many find the candidates discouraging. I appreciate journalists and organizations who aren't afraid to tell people how terrifying of a choice Trump truly is.

  • No, they should not.

Newspapers can endorse canidates and still remain nuetral in their reporting. Newpapers have opinion sections, and this is where those kinds of endorsements belong. For some newspapers, the tradition of endorsing candites is also a long and time honored tradtion and they have been able to do so while still remaining neutral.
