Military draft: Can the conscription benefit the society?

  • Conscription Puts the Finishing Touches on Education

Though indispensable, only so much training can be instilled in young people through textbook education. A year or two of National Service, in combat or non-combat roles, would serve as the perfect compliment and finishing touch to a traditional classroom experience. Young men and women would be able to apply what they had learned in a real-life, no-nonsense environment, while making a rapid transition to full adulthood as they are taught discipline, duty, and respect for authority.

  • Military service builds character.

In my opinion, one of the prime causes for decay of American society was the ending of the draft. Military service builds character and teamwork, reducing selfishness and self-centered behavior. It's the ultimate form of learning to "play and work well with others." People who haven't been in the military at some point simply seem so immature and unwilling to tackle tough problems head on.

  • Yes, conscription can benefit society

It can benefit society but at a great cost. Most of the cost of such an action is tied up in the trust and lives of the countries people. Taking away a persons choice as to whether or not to put their lives on the line for their country is a horrible thing.

  • Not everone is fit for it

Mandatory military service requires every citizen to join and serve in the armed forces, but not everyone is cut out for it. Whether it is mental issue, physical issue, or psychologically issue, not everyone is fit to meet the physical, mental and emotions demands of the job. Factors like anxiety, depression and the like should be carefully considered. Potentially killing someone is something that every person who was drafted in the military struggles with in their own way. A study conducted by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America showed that approximately 40,000 military members who returned from war in Iraq and Afghanistan suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). And that rate is three times higher among those who were deployed in combat than those who were non-deployed.

  • It will murder us all with flying hamsters.

I have been deep under cover at a top secret government peanut factory and I have deduced that the American government will make whoever gets conscripted into the military get turned immediately allergic to nuts then the government smears hamsters with peanuts and fires them into the air, they then explode and we all die simple as.
