Most peoples beliefs are based on emotion rather than logic

  • Yes and rightly so.

Logic should always be incorporated in beliefs but beliefs based on logic alone are often dangerous. It is only logical that you what is best for you even at the cost of others its logical to destroy your those who would or might harm you its logical to execute criminals instead of keeping them alive leaving the risk of escape and to reduce the cost of keeping them alive. It is logical to take away freedom to ensure safety. Its logical to enslave others to do the work that you don't want to do. Its logical that the strong should live and the week should die. People forget that compassion, kindness love, sadness, humility and guilt are all emotions as well as anger and other negative emotions. We call a person without emotions like compassion and other normal human emotions a sociopath they tend to do terrible things. It goes to show that people are capable of terrible things most people don't do these things because of there emotions. Most religions tell us to good in the world but many twist religions to suit there own purpose this is why they seem so contradictory at times. These contradictions are a persons attempt to manipulate the people of said religion. Logic is cold unfeeling doesn't have concern for fairness just the most beneficial outcome.

  • And their emotions adapt to what they have been told

Your feelings adapt to your surroundings so that you can better function in them. Unfortunately our feelings adapt to the religious beliefs that are shoved down our throats. So your feelings tell you your beliefs are true. No religion stands out more than any other. Most people aquire their beliefs on their mothers knee. Statistically speaking what religious beliefs you have depends on where you were born. So obviously it has nothing to do with logic. Most people dont even explore other religions they just blindly accept whatever beliefs are around them. I dont think its a bad thing to believe in god but to accept views based on your feelings instead of your own reason is retarded and its the enemy of moral progress in the world. Every moral progress in the world has been opposed consistently by the organized churches of the world. The more intense has been the religion of any period and the more profound has been the dogmatic belief they greater has been the cruelty and the worse has been the state of affairs. People need to stop using their emotions and start using their logic. Religion doesnt answer your questions. It keeps you from asking questions. The answers religion gives us all contradict each other so they cant all be true and most of them have to be false. So obviously most religions arent giving answers.

  • Religion at its base is an emotional philosophy

    Definitions:

Logic - reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity.

Emotion - a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.

Just going off of standard definitions, I definitely agree that religion is emotional. Logic requires fact.

I'm sure little bits of logic is used to catagorize and identify the system behind religion, but religion itself is not fact based.

  • Most definitely emotional at its core.

  • People will base beliefs and dissensions on emotions rather that logic at most times because of the relation to the situation.

Most humans and other intelligent animals will base almost all actions on their emotions. It's just the way the brain works. Rather than logical based dissensions they will base them on the current mood or the dominant emotion they feel. Which can be a logical or most likely a stronger emotion.

  • Both work hand in hand

In any religion, be it islam or Christianity, one is expected to read and learn more about your religion. Some laws are not applicable to present times and it would be very stupid of one to follow them. So I think both logic and enotion together are important to be a good religious man. God is all about freedom.
