There should be payment made to students, for the fact that there are students who have to work double time over, in school and the games to keep everything on a winning track. Students are very motivated when there is something to get motivated about, then while they are focusing on school and their activities they will have the money to buy uniforms and anything else they need.
I do not believe collegiate athletes should be allowed to unionize. Allowing them to do this seems to be openly admitting that these players are paid and they simply shouldn't be. Create a minor league football team or sports team that isn't directly connected to our institutions for education. Education monies should go to education, not sports.
No, collegiate athletes should not unionize. Collegiate athletes are students. Colleges and universities historically are intended as places of learning. Sports are extracurricular. They are not, however, jobs. Washing dishes in the college dining hall is a job. Singing in the campus choir is extracurricular and generally does not merit pay. College sports do produce income for colleges and universities. It is understandable that college athletes would want a bigger piece of the pie. However, this is a problem with the college system as well as society's reverence for college sports. Unionization of collegiate athletes further distorts the importance of college sports in our society rather than putting the money and recognition back where it belongs in the college system: the academics.
No they shouldn't unionize they are not a company that is being mistreated. What are they going to unionize about getting paid off for the abilities. They were paid when they got their sports scholarships to play for that college and they are getting recognized by the pro teams more than they know.
