North Carolina no longer considered a democracy: Should the federal government take it over?

  • North Carolina is out of control.

Given that North Carolina's democratic credibility score has been ranked alongside despotic countries such as Iran then it seems absolutely imperative that the federal government step in and ensure that voters in that state are allowed to exercise their full democratic rights. It is important to note that politicians in North Carolina have been working on disenfranchising voters and gerrymandering boundaries for years and therefore they cannot be trusted to reverse the damage themselves.

  • Yes, if there is enough evidence to show it's undemocratic.

The claims that North Carolina has become undemocratic are very serious. This is a violation against the constitution of the United States of America which states that we are a democratic country. If there is enough evidence to prove that there has been a violation of the letter and the spirit of the constitution, then the law should take its course which is in this case putting North Carolina under the federal government.

  • As much as I believe it to be illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional

To leave a pseudo democracy in charge of a state; the supreme court has already ruled that specific federal interference is an intrusion into states rights when they stripped the oversight of state with histories of racial discrimination at the ballots.

As such even if the state was turned into a seeming dictatorship the federal government has no right to interfere without court order (which would be appealed all the way up to SCOTUS) based on that previous verdict of intrusion.

  • No, I don`t think so.

The federal government was never intended to rule over the states. The states were only supposed to come together with a federal government in order to take care of things the states couldn't do for themselves, like defense from other countries. The federal government should leave North Carolina alone to take care of its own problems.

  • The federal government doesn't have power.

The federal government was never intended to rule over the states. The states were only supposed to come together with a federal government in order to take care of things the states couldn't do for themselves, like defense from other countries. The federal government should leave North Carolina alone to take care of its own problems.
