North Korea's former dictator, Kim Jong-il allegedly spent roughly $1 million a year on Hennessy. Do you think continued revelations make it less likely for key ally China to continue backing North Korea?

North Korea's former dictator, Kim Jong-il allegedly spent roughly $1 million a year on Hennessy. Do you think continued revelations make it less likely for key ally China to continue backing North Korea?
  • Yes, I think it is likely that China will eventually stop backing North Korea.

The behavior of the North Korean leaders is completely out of hand. China supports the country with the hopes that they can ensure peace in that area. If that regime were to collapse, it would certainly take a toll on China's resources as far as caring for the refugees is concerned. However, North Korea is becoming more and more unstable as time goes on. The treatment of its citizens and the threats its leaders are making against the rest of the world is unacceptable. China will not be able to maintain peace is North Korea forever. They must make a difficult decision.

  • Keeping up with the excess.

If more revelations like that come out about the North Korea leader than I do feel like his status will crumble. If the world does not take you seriously then they will walk all over you and when you're spending millions of dollars on alcohol when you're people are starving, something just doesn't seem right about that.

  • Kim Jong-il alleged spending habits will loosen ties to China

Revelations about King Jong-il spending habits are likely to cause a rift with China. He allegedly spent $1 million on Hennessy, and his son has adopted similar spending habits. Although China probably knew about this already, the public reporting will cause embarrassment. China wants to be taken seriously on the world stage, and these revelations weaken its position.

  • Pretty sure there are alcoholics in the Chinese communist part

It is a farce to believe that China supports and aides the North Korean regime because of their anti-western stance. A former supreme leader's taste for fancy western booze is unlikely to be a surprise or a deterrent to those proffering assistance within China. Kim Jong-Un seems unnaturally fond of pop music and that hasn't really impacted things much, why should his father's drinking habits?
