Operations are resuming at LAX following false reports of a shooter. Should the government find the person responsible to make him an example?
  • Yes, false reports should be punished.

Whoever made the false report caused panic for workers and passengers and delayed flights. The fake report had economic and personal consequences for many people. Track down this person and hold them responsible to ensure that others don't follow his or her example. There is enough unrest in the world today without this kind of foolishness.

  • Yes, this must not be tolerated.

Mass shootings are on the rise, and it takes a lot of resources to handle these situations. A false report of an active shooter wastes valuable resources, instills fear, and incites panic. This is unacceptable. Filing a false report is a crime, and the person responsible should be held accountable to discourage repeat offenses.

  • Yes, the person should be found and held responsible for his actions as he incited panic

This is no different than someone shouting "Fire" at a crowded movie theater. When someone incites panic, they should be held responsible. In an age where gun violence is prevalent, to claim that someone has brought a gun to an airport as a prank is extremely dangerous. This person should be held accountable for filing a false report and be sent to jail for his crime.

  • Start overreacting to things like this and you'll see more

At some point in the near past, somebody realized that calling an anonymous tip to SWAT resulted in the target literally getting their door kicked in. If you start overreacting to false reports like this, people who know what they are doing are going to spoof calls from other IPs or phone numbers. Making an example of somebody never works out well.
