Physics of the microwave oven: Are microwave ovens safe to use to cook food?

  • Yes, they are

Microwaves ovens use, not surprisingly, microwave radiation. Microwave radiation has a frequency that is far too low to be able to cause any damage to living organisms with cancers and the like. The only danger a microwave oven poses is if they're not used properly; one can explode them by putting metal in them, for instance.
