Yes, too much attention is now been paid on the type of weapon that the Orlando shooter used. If both of these types of weapons can be used in this type of destruction, they should both be banned. It does not matter which one of the two weapons the shooter used to commit the act.
The type of weapon used in the Orlando terrorist attack is not as important as how the terrorist was able to buy the weapon. The shooter had been on the Terrorist Watch List, and was even interviewed by the FBI. People on the terrorist watch list should not be allowed to buy firearms, no matter the type.
Paying too much attention to the type of weapon isn't really the issue, it helps in aiding in the information that is needed to complete investigations and to inform the public. In incidents such as Orlando, the weapon, is just one piece to a greater puzzle, a greater problem. There is definitely not too much attention being paid to the weapon(s) being used.
The type of weapon is relevant. The Sig Saur is an AR-15 style weapon. It has the folding stock and large magazine associated with the AR-15. It is important to discuss what these weapons can do. We need to decide whether we want people to have this sort of fire power.
