Police department charging TV news network $36,000 for body cam footage: Should all police officers be required to use body cams?

  • Heck yeah...Kiss racial claims goodbye :oP

There's a particular minority group currently thriving on the 'unknown' and lack of context involving police actions to cry racism at every turn... Now we'll get to see what prompted the police to act so "controversially". Cry 'wolf' so much and people inevitably get fed up with it. Careful what you wish for... :0)

  • Yes yes yes

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes ye yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

  • We Need To Shed More Insight Into Police Work

With increasing police power, and the increase in firepower available for police forces in tackling demonstrations, there needs to be increased insight into police behaviour. Police with firearms and tools designed to injure and debilitate should have their actions scrutinised and observed in order to ensure that police use these tools sensibly, and can be trusted.

  • Accountability is a part of many jobs

We use forms of accountability (other than eyewitness or sworn testimony) to check for quality in ethics and decision-making in almost every other job - CEOs, telemarketers, customer service representatives, even fast food employees. For a job that bears the responsibility of wielding lethal weapons, any accountability measures that can shake up any existing cronyism or privilege should be used nationwide.

  • Every officer should wear one

I firmly believe that every officer should be required to wear body cams while on duty. I think that this would help not only to discover the "bad cops" but also to determine when cops are just doing their jobs in accordance with the law. It could drastically cut back on claims of police brutality and misconduct that otherwise couldn't be proved. However, I do think there should be very strict and clear guidelines on how this footage is used. Certain footage shouldn't be released, and certainly never sold.

  • Yes, police officers should wear body cams.

Body cams can provide or disprove an argument if any case is taken to court. I see no bad situation in cops having to wear body cams. They should always be held accountable for their actions, especially when dealing with the general public. This is most important if the cops has to use some sort of force to apprehend the subject.

  • Validates our privacy

What if your on the streets and the police officer has his/her body cam on and you don't know your being recorded. They don't have your consent of being recorded and you don't know where the film goes so no no no no no no no no no no no.
