Pre-selecting sex of children: Should parents be allowed to select the gender of their offspring?

  • Parents should be allowed to choose

Parents should be able to choose the gender of their baby because some parents are carriers of diseases that can be hereditary, and most hereditary disease affect men because they only have one x chromosome to fall back on so they should get to choose the gender of their baby for medical reasons. Also, the way they select the gender of the baby is not manipulative, it just goes throught sperm selection so no harm is done to others. If you are still against gender selection ask yourself these questions," would you rather have slighty larger gender imbalance with no abortions, or would you rather kill innocent unborn babies with natural gender imbalance?" Another question to ask yourself if you sre worried about it causing gender discrimination is," wiuld you rather have a healthy baby who is faced with gender 'discrimination' or have to bury you child before you die?"

  • It can save time and money.

Most families dream of having a boy and a girl. Realistically, that does not always happen. As a mom of 3 boys I understand the desire to pre-select the gender of their child. If you go about that naturally it might not happen. It would be cheaper to select the gender of your child than to go about it naturally and have 6 children of the same sex. Yes, I do know someone that happened to. Being able to select the gender could help save time and money.

  • This could cause problems.

Parents should not be able to select the gender of their offspring. First of all, it doesn't matter. The baby doesn't NEED to be which gender you want. Second of all, messing with its genes to alter its gender could be harmful if something goes wrong. Third of all, we may see too much of one gender and not enough of the other. Finally, this could create gender bias. Parents blamed because they didn't choose to make their kid a certain gender, maybe people discriminating because of gender. This leads to something more unfair. This could cost money. In turn, if they don't have enough cash to buy their baby into a certain gender, they could be discriminated against. So just leave your baby as it is.

  • No they shouldn't.

If parents were allowed to select the gender of their offspring we would start to have problems with too many of one sex. Although people would likely choose both sexes, it is also likely that one sex (probably male) would be chosen far more often than the others. This would especially be prevalent in certain countries. It is a bad idea!
