Psychotherapy can be very beneficial in modern society. Modern humans face a number of work, job, family, and social pressures which they must constantly balance in their everyday lives. A neutral third party to impart advice can help alleviate or at least manage some of those pressures, and is therefore a useful tool for many people today.
While there are certainly cases of mental illness in which psychotherapy is both important and helpful, in modern society psychotherapy has become greatly overused to the point where seeing a therapist has practically become the social norm. Psychiatric medications are greatly over-prescribed and people have come to lean on the mental health industry instead of analyzing and solving their own problems.
