Rape Victim Convicted of Adultery in Qatar: Does the World need to pressure Middle Eastern Countries to stop persecuting victims of Sexual Assaults?
  • This shouldn't happen anywhere

This is one of the great examples of why the United States and other countries get involved in foreign affairs. Basic human rights should be ensured for everyone on this planet, not just those living in modern societies. We need to work with these other countries to evolve into the modern way of life, at least on some level, to protect victims.

  • Yes, the world should put major pressure on Middle Eastern countries.

Yes, every major nation should pressure Middle Eastern countries to stop persecuting sexual assault victims. This is an inhumane way of handling a terrible situation. A victim gets convicted of adultery means the rapist was justified in his actions? This is telling every victim that they don't matter and a man can do anything they want to them. This will make it even harder for victims of sexual assault to come forward all over the world.

  • Yes, that is unacceptable.

In the United States and other Western countries, we also have a rape problem, but this is on a whole different level. We do our share of victim blaming in the United States, but to actually convict a rape victim is horrific. I'm not sure what can be done about this, but the United States and other countries need to use their power and influence to try to put a stop to this.

  • Unfortunately, Qatar Is a Soverign Country

Qatar is a sovereign country with its own laws. Other countries may not have success in pressuring the government to stop persecuting victims of sexual assault. However, organizations and individuals can simply choose to avoid traveling there or refuse to do business with Qatari companies. Perhaps FIFA can do something about this issue ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
