Rebuilding New Orleans: Is rebuilding New Orleans important to race relations?

  • After the media coverage, yes.

Normally, I don't think it would matter. However, after the such negative media attention given to New Orleans on race relations, it is now important. If New Orleans isn't given the resources to rebuild, it will be seen as not caring about the city because of the races that live their.

  • Rebuild - but don't gentrify

FEMA and the federal government failed the citizens of New Orleans. The help offered was "too little, too late." Rebuilding efforts have been slow and in some cases shoddy. It is important that we rebuild New Orleans, but we should take steps to prevent the rebuilding from pushing out communities of color.
