Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010: Do financial derivatives require federal oversight?

  • Financial derivatives require federal oversight.

The financial crisis was caused in part because of unregulated derivatives. Bankers make complicated transactions that investors did not fully understand. As a result, many people were evicted from their houses or lost their jobs. Washington should regulate the entire financial system to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

  • After Great Recession, Absolutely

More transparency in investment derivatives should be apparent now, especially in wake of the Great Recession of 2007-2008. I'm all for free market principles, but home loan sharks took the world for a drunken ride on a roller coaster when mortgage-backed derivatives tanked. Bailouts favored the rich, not the everyday workers whose lives were destroyed when the economy plummeted.
