The financial crisis was caused in part because of unregulated derivatives. Bankers make complicated transactions that investors did not fully understand. As a result, many people were evicted from their houses or lost their jobs. Washington should regulate the entire financial system to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
More transparency in investment derivatives should be apparent now, especially in wake of the Great Recession of 2007-2008. I'm all for free market principles, but home loan sharks took the world for a drunken ride on a roller coaster when mortgage-backed derivatives tanked. Bailouts favored the rich, not the everyday workers whose lives were destroyed when the economy plummeted.
