  • Yes, it should

People like to vote and do things without acknowledging the full circumstances that other people were put in. Yes, we all may disagree with polices and other things however, we have to remember that we are all living beings and thats one common thread that should unite us all. However, people are so quick to say, "Bomb them" or "lets go to war" then they don't want to see the aftermath. Although this situation wasn't due to wasn't due to war but instead a leak of a plant. Nevertheless, it could create a clear depiction of things how men, women and children and just the earth could suffer due to individual disagreements. I don't think people should live there because more than likely it is still unsafe. However, it should be turned into museum the provides safety gear in order to access the site.

  • Chernobyl shield should not be removed

Although 29 years may seem like a very long time to humans, it is not a long time at all in the life of radioactive material. The contamination at Chernobyl has already killed many people, animals, and caused an environmental catastrophe that has not yet ended. A containment shield should remain in place.

  • No, there are potentially dangerous consequences to removing the shield.

No, not enough time has passed to consider removing the shield. The suggested amount of time for the shield to remain intact is 100 years. We are still much too far from that date to begin to remove the shield now. This action could have potentially dangerous effects on the surrounding area, and worsen an already devastating tragedy. The shield should remain in place for the proper amount of time.

  • What looks safe isn't necessarily safe.

No I don't believe that removing the shield in Chernobyl is a good idea. Just because it has been several years since the tragedy occurred doesn't mean it's a good idea to remove a protective shield. There could still be after effects that scientists haven't thought of thought could cause equally as terrible repercussions as we've already seen. It is better be safe than sorry, especially in the case of radioactive material.

  • No, I don`t think so.

Ukrainian scientist Maryna Naboka begs to differ. She told me people here get sick more often and they become more seriously sick. They receive little doses of radiation, but they do it on a day-to-day basis, and the second generation continues getting the radiation. Radiation contamination is very stubborn. 4,000 casualties secondary to the Chernobyl reactor tragedy appears to be a very low estimation.
