School uniform: Do school uniforms help improve social inequalities?

  • Yes it can

School uniforms can at least temporarily help do away with social inequalities. Perhaps some students can afford better clothing while other students have hand me downs and flea market clothes. If they have a uniform on in school we will never see either of those two cases taking place in school.

  • Yes, school uniforms can help.

School uniforms can definitely help kids feel like they're more on a level playing field. When students are allowed to wear whatever they want, there's a peer pressure felt to wear clothing that's name brand, and this can be difficult for kids whose parents can't afford a lot of clothing. By requiring uniforms, schools can help ensure that all kids feel like they fit in.

  • Yes, they equalize students.

Yes, school uniforms help improve social inequalities, because students do not dress based on their income. It is very hard to walk into school not having the latest thing. Students are easily intimidated by those with nicer clothes. Having all students dress the same is an easy way to show that all students are welcomed for learning at school.

  • Smooths The Inequality

I believe school uniforms do help improve social inequalities in a class room. Students can judge each other when clothes car vary a lot, but uniforms enforce rules that make everyone dress in a very basic manner. It doesn't matter if you paid $10 for the shirt or $100, it's still just a polo. I think it makes a big difference.

  • Yes they do.

School uniforms do help improve social inequalities amongst student. When schools have uniforms, then the students are all dress the same. With all the kids being dressed the same, students will not be able to be classified as poor or rich based on what they are wearing which will improve social inequalities.

  • Yes, school uniforms help improve social inequalities.

I believe that school uniforms help improve social inequalities. When all students look the same you don't have to worry about students feeling bad because their parents might not have the money to buy designer clothes or celebrity endorsed shoes. Everyone feels equal because there is no separation by what you're wearing because you all look the same.

  • School uniforms do not help improve social inequalities.

School uniforms do not help improve social inequalities. There will always be cliques and groups in schools and by making them wear school uniforms will not help the social situations. I think that students should be allowed to express themselves and be able to wear anything that they want to in school.
