  • Science is a bane

Science has created deadly weapons which cause destruction. The ubiquitous plastics have turned the whole world into a dump. Science had developed a fear of death into everyone one's heart and mind. Chemicals, air conditioners, refrigerators etc have made us dependent on help and there is no self service within us. Thank you

  • When misused, Yes.

Although science HAS uncovered better technologies, there is a point in which science becomes a bane. I'm talking about worshiping scientific beliefs or the usage of science to create weapons of mass destruction. This is especially evident in the testing of the Tsar Bomba where "In order to give the two planes a chance to survive – and this was calculated as no more than a 50% chance – Tsar Bomba was deployed by a giant parachute weighing nearly a tonne. The bomb would slowly drift down to a predetermined height – 13,000ft (3,940m) – and then detonate. By then, the two bombers would be nearly 50km (30 miles) away. It should be far enough away for them to survive." Even after the test, "the village of Severny, some 55km (34 miles) from Ground Zero, all houses were completely destroyed". A town 34 miles(179520 feet) away from the blast of a bomb created by this science was completely and utterly destroyed. Even areas hundreds of miles away were still affected by the bomb, whether it be roofs collapsing or radio communications being interrupted, this is the result of science. And while it is true that there was little radiation, that was because the bomb was detonated 13,000 kilometers above the ground. As for the impacts of the bomb, cities over 100 miles away feeling the bomb and the Tu-95 the bomb was dropped from "plummet[ing] more than 1,000m (3,300ft) before the pilot could regain control", they could have been doubled. Yes, that's right. The 57 Megaton child of science had been neutered from being the 100 Megaton original design. 100 Megatons. Over 3,000 Hiroshima and Nagasakis. A power that would have most certainly killed the crew of the modified Tu-95 that carried it. Even one of the people who worked on the Tsar Bomba, Andrei Sakharov, a man who had worked on the Russian Atomic Bomb program from it's core, rejected the use of any nuclear devices and tried to rid the world of these devices he had helped to create. These devices which had shown that science really had gone too far. So this is why I say that Science is a bane. If you have read all of this, then thank you! I hope that you will take what you have read here when considering your choice of weather science is a boon, or a bane.

  • Science is a big part of the world around us

While science has created deadly technology, it also saves millions of lives in the form of vaccines, sensors that allow us to accurately judge the health of a patient, etc. While it is a stretch to say it helps us evolve, as it gives us what we need, and what we want, without letting us adapt to the environment ourselves, it has made humans some of the longest living creatures on the planet. Without science, we wouldn't even be having this debate right now! While science has created things that are hurting our environment, it also helped us figure out that we were hurting our environment, and created the machines that clean up the trash in our oceans and rivers.

  • Without science, we wouldn't be here

Science is what brings humans into a higher prospect of knowledge and without it, we wouldn't be able to communicate right now via computers or cell phones. Saying science is a bane is reminiscent to saying food is deadly and should never be eaten because some of it is poisonous to humans.

  • Science helps us Evolve.

If we did not have ever wonder "Why?" , our jobs as humans to grow and adapt to anything will have never happened. We could never have learned how to make fire, harness electricity, land a man on The Moon! We have always needed science for the fact of evolution that makes humanity what it is today. Thank You.
