  • I think it should

I think abortion should be legal if raped or incest. The reason is that rape is something that you don't want. If you get raped and pregnant then you didn't want it. The reason I say that abortion should be legal if raped or incest because imagine having to carry the rapist's fathers baby around nine month. Everyday she would have to go through that over and over again reliving that day. If you are 7 months long and was raped i think you should not aboard it because you should have done that when they were just a fetus. Yes. God wouldn't want you to kill a baby but he wouldn't want you to be raped either.

  • No question about it.

Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare- the best solutions for that are not to outlaw it in any circumstance before viability, but to provide comprehensive sex education and have reliable contraception widely available and affordable.

But the cases of rape and incest are particular fraught. To punish a woman twice- first by her assault and then by being forced to carry and birth the offspring of her rapist- is reprehensible.

  • Absolutely should be.

Abortion should be reserved exclusively for women who got raped, had incestuous intercourse, or have a medical condition that would seriously harm the mother/child. I believe that abortions should not be given to women who made the conscious decision to have unprotected sex. There are other alternatives to effectively prevent conception in the first place (birth control, condoms, morning after pill, abstinence).

I understand that accidents happen, but I can't tolerate irresponsibility. If you are aborting a child, you should have never gave in to having sex (unprotected) in the first place. Leave abortion for the people who need it.

  • Yes, it should be legal, period.

People place so much value in human life. Human life isn't special its not blessed, its not sacred, its just, there. If a women wishes to terminate her pregnancy than that is fine. FOR WHAT EVER REASON SHE HAS. The only argument i can see against this is going to be a religious one. To this i say, why is it that the majority of you want the death penalty to be legal aswell? One is murder and one is not? No, the choice is for the mother herself, if the father does not want to raise it than i think he should be allowed to back out and i think the mother should be made aware of the fathers opinion, but the ultimate choice is the mothers. If you are some devout religious person and don't like abortions and think they are murder, than don't have an abortion. I live in america, where freedom is supposed to be the cornerstone of our culture. If you want to restrict people from their freedom than that's fine, but what if i said "no bibles on public property, they can influence violence and bigotry." Would you be ok with that? No, you wouldn't. So don't force your religious beliefs on other people and mind your own business. Its whether you have the choice of abortion...Not, YOU MUST GET AN ABORTION IF YOU HAVE A BABY.

  • I do believe it should.

I am pro-life and of course a fetus should be allowed to be born, but if the woman survives pregnancy, should it be mandatory for her to live her life raising a child who is a daily reminder of her being raped or of her incest acts? Even if she decides to put the child up for adoption, she would have to live her life knowing that somewhere out there, a child born by her and her rapist is being raised. It's emotionally and mentally damaging towards her. More satisfaction to the rapist if his or their intent was to make her suffer all her life. He may get to spend his life in jail or get the death penatly but she has to live her life knowing that she has given birth to her rapist baby and forever will it be a reminder that she was raped. No body wants to be reminded of that or relive that. She would also have to deal with daily emotional and physical baggage that comes with a child, let alone her rapist's child. Let's also think about the child, they would have to grow up knowing that their father was a rapist and raped their mother, their mother is a rape victim and they are ultimately a rape child or incest child. Unless the incest was consensual and one sided, she she have the ultimate choice of abortion, even if it was consensual, she would still go through all of the above with the difference being that it is a relatives child. In both cases she should have the right to abort the child, even though it would truly suck to give up a life in order to save your own life or to save your self from life long suffering.

  • Its up to the mother!!!!!!

In some case I do believe that it wrong but why make the mother remember the horrible day she suffered with bring a unwanted child in the world.Tbh its up to the mother not god not no one besides her.She makes the decision. Yeah there is adoption but what if the kid wants to get in contact with his or her real parnets how are you going to explain that it could really fuck up the child's head.

  • Rape is ...

Rape is a traumatic experience for anyone, I feel it would be heartbreaking to birth the child of someone who has abused you and doesn't give a crap about you. Plus having that baby would be stressful because it could cause a lot of stress on the baby carrier and then that stress goes over to the baby which can be dangerous for both health.

  • Well duh or else why is there the morning after pill for rape victims?

Look to all of you who think abortion is murder and such thats cool. But its not your body, you are not doing the "evil" deed, you are not in that situationm and you were not raped so why should you care? Besides rape victims have enough trauma from the event and if they can't go through the thought of 9 months of terror of what the rapist gave them, let them do the abortion. Its their choice and you dont have to support them, thus you dont need to bassh them either.

  • Yes, it should definitely be legal!

If you give birth to a child that is born out of an act of violence, it is wrong to have the baby. Even if you may love the baby, but the mother should have the choice not to have it. It is her own body and it was not her decision to have sexual intercourse with the rapist/relative. It goes against the principle of personal freedom. There are cases in some countries where the rapist does not have to go to jail if he marries the victim, do you really want to spend the rest of your life with someone who you despise, who does not respect you and who has hurt you the most?

  • Abortion should be legal anyways.

Even more so in rape or incest, since in the first one the woman never decided to become pregnant and in the second the baby's genes will have a harmful effect. For abortion in general its irresponsible to have a baby if a woman feels she can't care for it--and in case of rape she probably can't

  • I'm on the fence about the legality of abortion but if it's generally illegal this shouldn't be an exception

    1. If the fetus has a right to life that transcends a woman's right to decide who can and can not use her body then there is no reason for a rape exception. The fetus can't have a right to life and then suddenly not have it if it is a product of rape. The fetus didn't rape her.

    2. Why is it always "rape or incest"? If there's a rape exception that would include cases of nonconsensual incest. If she willingly participated in it then she is just as responsible for the incest as the father was and so that shouldn't be a reason for an exception.

    3. As for abortion in general, I consider the fetus but then I also consider that the woman's body is her own. So even if the fetus is a person maybe that still doesn't give it a right that trumps the woman's right to self-ownership. If this was the only argument people had then I'd be pro-choice.

But it's not the only argument people use and arguments have an influence that goes beyond the policy issue in question. Pro-choice arguments often imply or outright state that if you grow up in foster care or you have a disability that your life is worthless and you'd be better off dead. The legality of abortion could be cheapening the value of life in general every time someone argues about how hard life can be for someone in foster care or living with a disability as way of promoting the pro-choice position. The argument that a fetus is not even a person is an even worse one, since it can then be argued that newborn infants aren't persons or that mentally handicapped people are not people.

But I also don't like how often the pro-life side uses God in their arguments. Religion is a personal, private matter. The argument that murder is murder whether there is or isn't a God is an argument I could get behind, but too often pro-lifers flaunt religion. So I worry that if abortion were banned that would encourage more flaunting of religion.

People should think about how their arguments influence or could influence society beyond just the policy issue they are applying the arguments to.

  • Abortion is murder.

Not only that, but it can have several devastating effects on a woman. Abortion puts a woman at higher risk for infertility, miscarriage in subsequent pregnancies, certain cancers, damage to the cervix, even infections. But even more devastating are the emotional effects. 40 - 60% of women, according to abortionfacts.Com, reported negative emotional reactions, including guilt, sleeplessness, depression and regret. 10% had "serious psychiatric complications." To risk this, on top of the trauma that comes with rape, makes no sense in my opinion.

  • As unfortunate as rape and incest are, they still don't excuse murder.

I feel for any woman who has gotten pregnant from rape. It's not a pleasant reminder to walk around with for 9 months. She didn't choose to become pregnant, and she didn't want to become pregnant. However, new human life has been created, and regardless of the cause of his or her conception, this baby deserves to live. Punish the rapist, not the innocent child.

The child can be adopted by someone else after birth if the mother cannot look after it, or if she does not want the reminder of what happened.

  • I disagree with

An infant has a fundamental rights not get killed for no reason especially in case of incest.Incest shouldn't be allowed in the first place because close relative share 50 % of your genetics. In case of rape i understand the victim but there are other ways that you can handle with infant.

  • Immoral & unnecessary

Abortion as a response to rape is a blatant misdirection of justice. It is punishing the innocent for the crimes of the guilty, which is generally considered barbaric in any civilised society.

Secondly, it is not even needed. Abortion does not 'undo' the rape or resolve the situation in any way. It just propagates the violence already caused. There is no evidence that abortion helps women's mental health and there are also many accounts of abortion harming it. So I could go as far to say that abortion actually makes things worse for the mother.

  • This is the stupidest thing.

Do you people really need to discuss this? That a baby has to be aborted bc it's father is a raper? How disgusting. That child has no say what so ever and you all are making out that it would be such a horrendous thing to keep the child of a raper. Self absorbed is all that you are for anyone that would support this matter. That child doesn't know anything, and it's like your acting as if the child's a raper too. No one says you have to keep it, there is always adoption jc

  • NO WAY,absolutely not

Abortion for incest is stupid. How could you justified sex between related people ??It's disgusting and abhorrent.First of all incest should not be allowed in the first place even if it's consensual because of the high risk that a child can conceive from birth defect so there shouldn't be any questioned about abortion because that would unfair for a fetus.A fetus has a right to be alive not to be killed because a two person made a mistake in which they shouldn't do.And in case of rape it it's truly an urgent case such as a woman body is not strong enough to give birth and could possibly die then a abortion might be necessary. And besides than that if a woman can give birth then of course not, abortion is not necessary and a child should born healthy from a mother uterus.

  • Abortion Is murder!

IF you get pregnant by your rapist the law does not saw that you have to keep the child give the child up for adoption to give the child a chance to live instead of murdering it! The child hasn't done anything wrong to you yes you got pregnant but that is not the worst part the worst part is that you got raped so give the child a chance to live!!
